Welcome to Clemson University's "A Dose of Prose" official website!
"For among the many uses of literature not the least is that it may help us to forget our misfortunes, and in especial bring solace to us when we are sick. Accordingly, there are many times when it is incumbent on the wise physician to prescribe, not a posset or a purgative, but an essay or a poem."
-Dr. Gerald B. Webb "The Prescription of Literature"
A Dose of Prose was founded by a group of students from Clemson University who are interested in medical careers, plan to work in health services, or those who just enjoy literature. The Balm reader is a collection of literature which includes short stories, poems, novel excerpts, religious scriptures, and other literature selections. These works were carefully chosen and compiled to create this book with the intended purpose of reading to patients in health care facilities to relax them or potentially better their health conditions. Bibliotherapy has been proven to be an effective way to help patients heal and improve holistic health.
