Santa Painted Lights day 231/365 (dps 365 "Holiday Decorations", Island Eye's "Light")
I saw this idea to paint with light by moving the camera and leaving the shutter open in order to create light trails. I have been playing around with this the past few nights creating all sorts of interesting patterns. Tonight I decided to try and make one of them my shot of the day. In doing so, I got the idea to "paint" something by spelling it out. It's definitely abstract, especially the "S", which was the hardest one to capture. It took me several tries to get it close enough to work. I edited the photo's in LR3 to increase the blacks, the contrast and the tones in order to create the best balance of black background and bright lights. Then I took the photos into PSE 8 and cropped them, placed them on a canvas, added the photo of one of our ornaments, added the wording in white and called it good enough to post! If I had more time, I'd likely go for perfection in some things but for now I'm going to let those editing things go and call it a day! Photo notes: For most of them, the ISO was 400, the shutter 2 seconds, aperture f/14, 55mm. For Santa the ISO was bumped to 800, 1/30 sec., f/5.6, 55mm, then edited to reduce noise. AND, you MUST view it on black for the best effect!
