Balintore Castle Restoration

Situated in the Angus glens, William Burn's Scottish Baronial fantasy lies in a sadly decaying state ...

On 15th January 2007, Balintore Castle was compulsorarily purchased by Angus Council. The move was the culmination of many years of effort to save this A-listed building for the nation.

This web page represents an initial presence on the web of the new restorer of the building, who has been working patiently (largely!) with the conservation authorities on the case since 2000. Considerable thanks must go to those who have worked long and hard to secure the architectural heritage for future generations. If you have an interest in the castle; wish to help with the restoration;  or even know something about the building please get in touch by emailing

It is expected that further information on the restoration, as it progresses, will be posted to the Web - most likely in the form of a blog. However, it was felt important to establish a Web presence as soon as possible to provide a central "rallying point" for the many people who are already friends of the building and indeed to encourage future friends. I will be very grateful indeed if you get in touch!

The restoration is an intimidating yet exciting prospect, and anyone who has fallen in love with this atmospheric building in its beautiful isolated setting cannot fail to recognise the challenge as one which is richly life enhancing.
