To compliment your training

Home

Clothing and Shoes:

REI : plenty of clothing and outdoor gear, but linked here especially for its selection of supportive plus-size sports bras (notoriously hard to find!) This link goes to the Northville store - Ann Arbor does not stock the larger size sports bras.

Running Fit  in downtown Ann Arbor sells a wide selection of shoes for running and walking and has knowledgeable staff who can help you find the right fit for your feet, gait, and the type of exercise you plan to do. (They also have a great calendar of events if you're looking for something fun and challenging to train for.)

Tortoise and Hare also sells quality footwear and exercise apparel and can help you find the right fit for running or walking. Located in downtown A2.

Equipment:

Craigslist sporting goods listings: often has inexpensive used exercise equipment listed, and listings are local to the Ann Arbor area.

Play it Again Sports sells new and used sporting goods and exercise equipment: link leads to the Ann Arbor store.

Books: (try Half.com for MUCH cheaper prices on books - I've linked to Amazon for complete descriptions)

Overcoming Overeating by Jane R. Hirschmann - a guide to ending emotional and compulsive eating by listening to your body and learning to feed yourself without worry or fear.

The Woman's Comfort Book by Jennifer Louden - a book for women who need more balance in their lives.

Eat This, Not That by David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding - a simple substitution book for dirt-common foods that saves tons of fat, calories and sodium - this whole series is fun and useful.

Hungry Girl by Lisa Lillien takes favorite high fat, high calorie foods and gives yummy, healthy lo-cal version recipes. Good for guys, too.

Reward Yourself:

Relax Station Massage : great massage therapists; very reasonable prices.

Oasis Hot Tub Gardens : soak in a hot tub to relax your muscles after a workout - feels wonderful!

Tricho Salon : get you hair done, manicure, pedicure, whatever! For a great haircut or dye go to the Studio at Briarwood, ask for the lovely Anne Veling and tell her Lynda sent you (for a discount)!

Pre- and Postnatal Resources:

Center for the Childbearing Year : An Ann Arbor center supporting women and families with childbirth preparation, breastfeeding support, Mother Baby support groups, a lending library and many community resources.
