Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Microphone with Cakewalk Sonar LE
The Samson C01U lets you record studio quality audio directly into your computer?s USB input and digital recording software! Some very clever Samson engineers managed to build the entire USB audio interface into the barrel of their best selling C01 Studio Condenser mic so high-quality vocals and acoustic instruments can be recorded directly into ANY USB equipped computer with just a USB cable (and Samson even supplies a 10ft USB cable with the mic). Mac driver software is a free download at Samson's website. PCs recognize the mic with no additional driver necessary. The C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic is the first affordable studio condenser mic with a direct USB output. For the first time ever, musicians who record music on computers have a simple, affordable way to capture high-quality vocal and acoustic instrument performances. Seamless integration was the idea, and it was obtained by creating a studio condenser microphone that can be plugged into any computer with no in/out boxes, no expensive computer pre-amps, just a USB cable. The C01U condenser microphone is based on our wildly successful C01. It features a 19mm internal shock mounted diaphragm with a cardioid pick up pattern ensuring pristine studio quality recordings. The C01U works perfectly on any computer, Mac or PC, and with any DAW software program. It immediately solves a huge problem for users of many laptops, many of which have no other input method for audio devices. Its price is also well within the price range of DAW hobbyists and beginners. It?s a must for any musician on the road or in the project studio, but the C01U is going to offer solutions to more than just musicians. The mic opens up possibilities for anyone who records audio?from Podcasters, journalists, students, and business people adding audio files to websites and multimedia presentations.88% (11)

Getting White Space
Studio Test Notes There's no question that quality photography (and video for that matter) increases clicks (viewer engagement) and online purchases. Catalogue shots tend to shoot against a solid white background to focus viewer attention on the subject - ie eliminate any other distraction (noise). We've been experimenting with getting this white background perfect (given our limited equipment - three Speedlight flash/ strobe units). Note: I'll concern myself with bigger units as we better understand what we're buying and the customer need) To blow out the white background it's suggested +2 stops above subject exposure (any more apparently bleed back on the subject). The result was a F/8 exposure (200 ISO) on the background. We bought a Sekonic L-358 light meter - this makes a huge difference. We're measuring light hitting the surface of the background and object not light reflecting (what in-camera meters give you). That means aiming for a F/6.3 on the image. We've setup the object (beer bottle and flower) about a meter (1 yard) in front of the background We experiment with the second flash manual settings (through a softbox) to get the right exposure - softtbox at 45 degrees to right and 45 above. Note: Switch off the background flash first. Snap Snap Snap.... Results (and things to fix) There's so much you don't see in the camera viewfinder and only can analyse once back on the computer On the background we see a gradual tone change (gradient) and therefore as a solution can see if we bring the flash down to level (was at 45 degrees above) will fix. I can also try and throw more light on the background. If you double the distance you get 1/2^2, or one quarter as much light. Background Flash Shadow. At the foot of the bottle we see shadow from the background flash. This can hopefully be fixed by putting a flag against the background flash. The flower and bottle are generally pretty flat and I would have liked more shadow to the left side of the object - not quite sure how to do that yet besides blocking any ambient left light. Also I've lost image quality through a narrower depth of field - I can possibly reduce ambient light or increase ISO to give me more room to play. Till next time//. SpongeBob Anjo ...

Digital cameras and flash technology have revolutionized photography. Originally seen simply as a way of illuminating dark scenes with portable light, flash today is used for a host of creative functions, including supplementing daylight and designing complex scenes lit by multiple light sources. Digital cameras with their preview screens make it easy to get instant feedback.Related topics:
But flash photography can still be a difficult artistic and technical challenge. It's simple to get that harsh deer-in-the-headlights look from built-in automatic flash, yet creating natural-looking images is not as straightforward. Manuals are terse and the terminology is confusing. This is where Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography comes in.
This is the authoritative book on the subject, guiding you through Canon's Speedlite system, from off-camera portable flash to professional studio lighting. It covers the fundamentals of flash metering technology, discusses key lighting concepts, and documents a wide range of Canon and third-party equipment. Universal flash accessories, studio gear, and radio triggers are all thoroughly covered. The book is lavishly illustrated with diagrams that demonstrate important functions and lighting arrangements, and inspiring photos that show sophisticated flash techniques. Though tailored for users of Canon EOS cameras, owners of other camera systems will find much valuable information as well. So, whether you're just getting started with flash, whether you've picked up the bug for off-camera lighting from such popular websites as Strobist.com, or whether you're making the leap into advanced studio work, Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography will be your in-depth resource.
