Day 32 of 365-Pt.2:…......….…Damn
Day 32 of 365-Pt.2:…......….…Damn
I was reminded of a story I’d written a few years ago, tonight. Not sure why it had popped in my head. Maybe…Maybe it was because it had just happened again… Quickly Robin, to the bat cove Originally written January 5th. 2008 There was no question about it. They were coming, and I had to be ready to take action the very moment they arrived. I’d been given a date, a single digit to circle on my calendar, but there was no mention of a specific time. Why would there be? Drat, a full 24 hour window in which they could come in a flash, and be gone just as quickly. When the day did come, I knew I would have to move swiftly and with a purpose, other wise my efforts would be all for not. It did not help that on that particular day, already facing this particular situation…My kung fu was not strong. Thinking back on the mass message they had sent out earlier in the month to every resident in my surrounding area, as I was preparing for work that morning, I remember thinking to myself. Perhaps if luck would smile in my favor just this once, perhaps then they will simply pass through while I am at work. Yes. That single little effort would not only save me the stress of master minding my not so witty plan, but it would also allow me the luxury of not having to sprint the entire length of my front yard the moment I’d spotted them. Just mentioning that at all should at least give you some idea as to how poorly plotted my plan had actually been to begin with. Actually in hindsight I thought it was a really good plan, and I still do. I just didn’t factor in a few of the possible worst case scenarios. I guess now you could say, I know better. When I arrived home later that evening, and discovered that it was still necessary to plant the gas pedal firmly to the floor board in order to trudge my way the eighty or so yards worth of snow buried asphalt just to reach the curb of my domicile, I knew. Luck had not smiled in my favor, and now we were back to good ole fashion redneck ingenuity. The game was on, and I reminded myself of what the mass message had a said. “City snow remove equipment will be passing through your neighborhood on Wednesday. Any vehicles left on the street will be towed (Well that’s basically what it had said).” There was not a single word of this message I had misunderstood. I knew they were coming, I knew when they were coming, and I knew what the consequences would be if my rig was taking up space on the curb when they arrived, but there was a part of me that had to voice a concern. While somewhat lengthy, the driveway of my humble denizen is only just large enough to birth my little weekend warrior camper trailer, and the Wife’s Jeep. Normally I would not see this as a problem. In fact, even in the past I had not seen this as a problem. Then again, in the past, at least as far as the time I have spent residing under the tin roof of this humble little home, we have never really had what I would consider to be a real winter. In the past, when snow removal equipment had been scheduled to scour my street, I had simply parked Lil miss up in the front yard. This time round, the two feet of snow already occupying my front yard, had me thinking that in the most likely case, that would prove to be a vary bad idea. There seemed to be only one logical solution. I had to park Lil miss on the street, and make ready the moment of scampering. Now I know what your thinking. Didn’t they just tell you that rigs left out on the street would be towed. Yes they did, but what your forgetting is this is Static we’re talking about…Oh…You didn’t forget that part. Well I figured I had a good plan anyway. Plain and simple. Why I’d spent entire minutes just working it out, and as far as I was concerned it was fool proof. Damn it man, it was smart. My plan was simple. I’d park Lil miss on the curb, and then I’d park myself in the easy chair up in the living room, and watch the street through the humans on display living room window like a hawk on Riddalin. The moment I spotted one of the snow removal machines turning onto my street, I would then bolt for Lil miss, like a marathon runner, and move her out of the way just in the nick of time. Truck out of the way, snow removal takes place unimpeded, and everyone goes home happy. That was my plan…It really seemed like a good plan. Well, at least that’s how I had it figured in my mind…Oh come on, like you’ve never orchestrated a bad idea before. What I later discovered was that while I had what I felt at the time to be a damn fine plan, I had apparently left out a few essential pieces of this not so complicated puzzle, and in doing so I had basically set myself up for the preverbal fall. Two poorly calculated pieces to be exact. Allow me to elaborate. Two somewhat pivotally important and surprisingly obvious equations, to my original damn fine plan formula, that for one reason or another, I had not actually figured in. 1) I had neglected to calculate the human bodies need
