Bay Area Fellowship JANES

Dear JANES,

We are gearing up for the next season of JANES and I am so excited about the opportunities that God has laid before us.  Mark your calendars for the JANES Expo, coming up in September.  This is our annual showcase of the ministries that we will offer and we can't wait for you to see what's coming up!

On a personal note, the seasons in my life are changing as well.  This month I will have the privilege of becoming a mother-in-law to the most precious girl.  She has been a part of our family for about 4 years now and I can't believe she will soon be officially ours!  I have been reading in the book of Ruth quite a bit lately and God has revealed His Word to me from a fresh perspective.  I've always related more to Ruth's circumstances and Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law, has been more of a supporting actress.  But now that I am about to gain a daughter-in-love, Naomi has taken center stage.  I have a new responsibility now and my desire is that, like Naomi, the life I live would always point to the Lord I love.

I'm not sure what season you're in, but I know that God's Word is alive and active and He will speak to you exactly where you're at.  As summer comes to an end and you reflect on all that God has done in the last few months, I pray that you can see how He has accomplished His purposes in and through your life.  He is faithful and I know that He has great plans for you, in this season and the ones to come!

Blessings!

New Compassion Team Ministries!

Graffiti Group
JANES is so excited to welcome Christine Poe as the leader of a new ministry designed to give back to our community by painting over graffiti in our neighborhoods.  Christine has volunteered in many organizations that impact our city and we are thrilled to have her on board. She is passionate about her faith and her family. Christine says, "I am committed to both and know that without either, my life would not be complete! I am eager to embark on this Ministry and anticipate the prayer and joy that we will soon begin shedding on this community."

If you would like to join Christine in this amazing ministry, you can reach her at

Inmate Pen Pals
Rose Mendez, who is now leading the Inmate Pen Pal Covey, is looking for volunteers to correspond with women who need an encouraging word!  The women of this awesome ministry write encouraging and Christ-centered letters to women in local prisons.  If you would like to get involved in this outreach group, contact Rose at
godsbest4me@yahoo.com or 361-854-6221.

Romanticized Obedience

Lately, God has been prompting me to do many things that I do not understand.  As I take each step of obedience, I can't help but analyze and romanticize the results.  I imagine this awesome outcome that shines the glory of God and affects many lives.  I anticipate the gates of heaven opening up and flooding the fruits of my efforts with miraculous and jaw-dropping wonders. . . . However, the endings that I dream up usually fizzle away, and I'm left with conclusions that wouldn't make it into book, let alone a best-sellers' list. After one such disappointing end to a much built-up step of obedience, I asked God what I was doing wrong.  Clearly, I was messing something up or not fully understanding God's whispers into my heart. Although I'm sure that God appreciated my version of the story, and I can't help but think He must have been quite amused; He finally showed me what I was missing: Everything!  He told me that I do not have the full perspective of my life, so I cannot ever fully comprehend the beautiful story that He is weaving for me. He also told me that when I do know the full scope of my time on earth and the outcome of all my steps of obedience are laid before me, I will fall to my knees in awe of the miraculous and jaw-dropping wonder that He created through my obedience and trust in Him.

"You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, 'He did not make me'; Or what is formed say to him who formed it, 'He has no understanding'"? -Isaiah 29:16 (NAS)
