Monica in a studio environment
Monica in a studio environment
After looking around at basically white walls, D.J. elected to use a grey backdrop that was across the room to create a standard studio lighting set-up from the portable Lumedyne equipment. He used one head in the same Calumet Soft Box, but very near our model to make it a large light source and limit its effect on the backdrop that was about 10 feet behind her. The Lumedyne needed only to be powered to about 25ws to light the model at f-5.6 (200 ASA) because it was in the Box only about four feet away from Monica. This made the transition of mid-tone to shadow very gradual across her cheek. More importantly, the light had to go much further (and at a wide angle) to reach the background, so the white light from the Soft Box lost most of it’s power before it reached the background. While this would have left the grey background underexposed nearly to black behind Monica, we chose instead to add a second Lumedyne Head with a blue Color Cap near the background on the camera right. Had we placed the background light behind the model the “blue” background would have been solid rather than the graduated background we created by deliberately using “light fall off” onto the medium grey background.
NYC - SoHo - Manhattan Portage
NYC - SoHo - Manhattan Portage
There was a simple philosophy that Manhattan Portage set out to achieve back in 1980, "A Bag For Everyone." Twenty years later it is certainly ringing true. From Montreal to Melbourne, Osaka to Oslo, and Stockholm to San Francisco, Manhattan Portage's line of bags are indeed everywhere and carried by everyone. Despite their sweeping global popularity, Manhattan Portage remains loyal to their NYC roots. This 26-year lifespan in the volatile fashion world, and in a town that embraces the designer-of-the-moment but does not suffer has-beens, is no small feat. Manhattan Portage has been able to avoid becoming another fleeting fad and withstand the test of time because their bags do. By innovating and expanding their line to accommodate the range of uses their bag owners demand, the Manhattan Portage line has developed to serve all walks and runs of urban life. Whether you are a DJ transporting your spinning equipment, a cell phone-toting investment banker, a starving student hauling pricey textbooks, or a messenger racing to deliver documents on time, Manhattan Portage has a style for you. (Even if, like many New Yorkers, you fit into two or more of these categories!)
