Total Housing: Alternatives to Urban Sprawl
Total Housing: Alternatives to Urban Sprawl
This book is conceived as evidence supporting the qualities of dense, urban living, and as a hopeful antidote against sprawl. Necessity and investigation are prerequisites for the design of housing: Total Housing refers to the need to understand that social, environmental, and economic factors affect form, and that living space is a base for our increasingly complex and varied societies. This new survey into multi - family housing focuses on the responses proposed by architects who are dealing with the dynamic and diverse demands of contemporary society. Featuring works by Lacaton - Vassal, BIG, + JDS, Sadar Vuga Arhitekti, Ryue Nishizawa, FOA, SHoP, and many emerging new architects, this volume is not a simple catalog, but rather a studied collection of inventive projects.

i could not choose which photo i wanted, so i decided not to post all of them. i got tagged, quite a long while ago. so i'm deciding to finally write 10 things about me. get ready for a hefty load. 1. i can not wait to own my own house. its going to be perfect. comfort will be the number one key. i want my own greenhouse, just overgrown with green plants., everywhere. it will be on a lake also. no one else will live on the lake though. only me and my family. there might also be a restaurant, but ill save that for later. there will also be a movie theatre filled with big comfy couches, blankets and pillows. it will posess every good movie ever made- dreamscape, cloverfield, seven pounds, airplane, goonies, rugrats all grown up, hangover, 23 etc. i will have a HUGE bed with a big master bedroom. there'll be winding stares and another huge staircase in the entrance. a good kitchen will be wanted. i want big windows, one big window for sunrise on the east side, and one for the sunset on the west side. oh, and a library. filled with interesting books i've read and carried with me through my life. so far, i have none. well, one or two. 2. i want to learn to play the piano, violin, and guitar. i've got a keyboard (nerd) in my room. i always get distracted by playing it. i took guitar lessons at one point in my life. but because i was so young, i didnt practice nor give that much of a damn. i wish i didn't . and a violin, only sounds good when theres two. 3. i've played almost every basic sport except soccer. i swam when i was 3 til about 5. (learned how to swim on my own though like four years later). i played softball in first grade. i did karate in second and third. (didnt advance much in that either) i did basketball through 4th to 6th. (got bronchitis during the season of 6th, quit because i was discouraged). i played volleyball 7th through 8th. (favorite sport but got cut freshman year:( i also joined in 4th grade, but we didn't have a coach by first game so i quit). i did track 7th grade (rocked at it, did shotput and sprinted) and kinda in eighth. (quit because new coaches were gay and i was lazy.) and now i play tennis. sometimes i wonder what would of happened if i stayed in a sport. 4. my "happy place" is in a little park in ludington michigan. i didn't take one picture of that place and i was only there for 20 minutes last summer. but it was so pretty, so isolated, and so calming. whenever i'm stressed, i think of the place. 5. my bestfriend, is my boyfriend, trenton. we've been dating for 14 months now. he knows my family and i know his. i can talk to him about anything in the world. i've been through so much with him and he's literally my shoulder to cry on. ill always be there for him, whatever happens in the future-it won't matter. he matters so much to me. but i'm not really one to talk about my personal feelings for another person, i find it more of a personal thing, it's meant to be kept between you and that person. just like "public displays of affection." no one's tongue should be shoved down anothers throat, ESPECIALLY IN PUBLIC. 6. no one gets my sense of humor. it's sarcastic and filled with puns, and sometimes just really stupid. i always laugh at my own jokes. and i tend to get yelled at for saying them. my mom calls half my jokes unlady like. i can't help it if i think the hangover jokes are hilarious, they just are too me. (hint hint on what i find humorous). only old friends truly get my sense of humor, because they've known me for so long, they know what not to take seriously. 7. my moods are up and down throughout the year. the first three months are always difficult for me. my mood drops and i get depressed really easily. if it wasnt for my can-do attitude, i would be completely differnt. so, i write lists of to-dos. things i wanna do in life, things i actually have to do, etc. crossing them off makes me feel good. plus it helps me put my life in order. 8. i love my family. some people in my life have taught me to appreciate what i have in my life. being the "second generation" of my mothers kids, i have my older siblings doings to learn from. not saying they did bad doings, they both turned out quite successful and happy, just that i learn what works and what doesnt. i'm very open with my mom and i talk to her about everything, literally. she keeps me in check and shes right about everything. i hate it, but at one poiint, i decided to just start listening. my sister is incredibly annoying and i don't care for her much of the time. but when its just us against the world, we make a good team. and my dad, has my sense of humor. i argue with him a lot, but we're a lot alike. we both never stop talking. (obv by how much ive written) 9. i want to become very successful in life. i want to major in business. i would like to own a restaurant at one point in my life. one you can rent out for weddings, and i could cater to. one on a lake. i also

Clownfish (precise id?), Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia I did actually rent a little 'toy' underwater digital camera for two of the dives and this picture is about the sum total of all my underwater efforts. It's unsharp, the subject is facing the wrong way and is not parallel to the sensor plane. I toyed with the idea of getting my own 'toy' underwater camera but after this experience I know I would not be satisfied with anything but a housing for my digital SLR and a couple dedicated strobes...

Key Urban Housing of the Twentieth Century: Plans, Sections and Elevations (Key Architecture Series)
The design of multiple housing – a new building type, especially for growing urban populations – was a major new area of activity for architects at the beginning of the twentieth century, and one that continues into the twenty-first century.
This book features some ninety of the most influential modern housing designs of the last hundred years by some of the best-known architects in the field. Each project is explained with a concise text and photographs and specially created scale drawings, including floor plans and site plans, sections and elevations where appropriate. The projects are organized in six roughly chronological chapters tracing the history of both public and private housing around the world.
The detailed drawings allow each project to be analyzed in depth, which, alongside the author’s authoritative text, will make this an invaluable resource for architects and students. As an added bonus, the book includes a CD-ROM containing digital files of all the drawings featured in the book.
150 color photographs; 500 line drawings
