Incredible Hulk [Blu-ray]
Academy Award® nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man who has been living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote to the unbridled force of rage within him: the Hulk. But when the military masterminds who dream of exploiting his powers force him back to civilization, he finds himself coming face to face with his most formidable foe: the Abomination -– a nightmarish beast of pure aggression whose powers match the Hulk’s own!

A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 HulkLouis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

The Noldor in Battle (An old Dwarvish drinking-song) Proud lords arrayed in steel mail, Bright eyes, long swords, tall crowns; But when the dragon breathed red fire, They, fleet of foot to flee his ire, With changed heart, e'en noble sire, Left Dwarves and Men to flail ! Bright-burnished silver horn of old, Once brayed in Valinor! "Retreat!" the Elves now on it blew; With elven feet, now not-so-true, Fair silver banner, shot with blue, Like Sirion, ran south. War horses then are reigned in, The elven army halts; Steel swords that sparkled in the Sun, Much like the tide that swelled at morn, With promises of power newborn, But ebbs at hottest noon. Dwarves there were but eighty-one To catch Unnumbered Tears; Beneath Midsummer's heated Eye, "Naugrim" held - a staunch ally, Behind their hideous masks so wry, And watched great Glaurung come! The beating of his mighty tread Was like a thunder-stroke; The Sun, so bright when in the East, Was shadowed by the hulking beast, Who wanted Elves and Men for feast, And on their armies broke. No wolf, no Orc, no Balrog, this Was Morgoth's greatest weapon; He settled down upon the plain 'Midst choking dust and broiling flame, And bane of Elves at once became - Their courage all undone. As Hand of God did part the Sea, That Dragon scattered Elves. Brave Men attacked; he withered them; Hypnotic eye a shining gem Their every sortie did he stem, Like sweeping toys from shelves. Hammer, Anvil swept apart, For Glaurung, in between, Dismayed the Sons of Feanor; Maedhros and his Eastern corps Like waves that lap upon the shore, Washed quickly from the scene. As Elves fled East, and Fingon balked Before black Orcan seas, The heavy-armoured short-limbed Dwarves, Behind their hideous masks of course, Encircle Glaurung in full force, Stinging like bumblebees. The dragon bellows a river of fire That fused the sand below; But naught can break that Dwarven Ring; On every scale their mattocks cling, They hack his sides, they tear and sing; He screams at every blow. The apoplectic dragon writhes Enraged, but held in check, His mighty tail then lashes out, And Azaghal, Dwarf Lord and stout Falls prone upon the choking drought, Hot breath upon his neck. The fallen Lord of Belegost He never stands again; Ferrous claws he feels attack; Slicing, rolls him on his back; He hears the sound of one leg crack, And feels his death-pang pain. The sky turns black for Azaghal Glaurung crushes down; Above, through smoothly-fitting scales, Not thick as on his sides or tail, The Dragon't belly with a wail He stabs to great renown. The Lord of Belegost thus died And fifty dwarves with him; But Glaurung, greatest of the foes Arrayed that day 'gainst spears and bows, Although they dealt no fatal blows Ran from the dour Naugrim. That day saw many evil things: Black treachery of Men; Bright Elves who craven, fled the field; Hurin, smoking axe did wield; In death King Fingon's fate was sealed; Ne'er to rise again. As darkened Sun falls west from noon, Lord Azaghal is raised, Amid the crowded battle scene, Wherein black Orcs now "vent a spleen" On Men and Elves in rout obscene, Decapitating strays. On lattice made of shriven spears The Dwarves process with him; In ranks tight knit, with dirges clear; A tortoise-slow march to the rear; Their enemies part, in craven fear Nor halt their progress grim. No more fought the Dwarves that day, Nor fought they ever, since; For Elvish silver's good to take In trade; but wartime allies make? They run! They friend to foe forsake Despite their tales and hints. Now raise a glass to Azaghal, Brave Lord of Belegost Who ringed the Father of Dragon-kind, Hacked his hide before, behind, Stabbed deeply through his belly-rind, When Elves their battle lost. Ten thousand were the Elves he saved By giving up his life; Glaurung Morgoth sent to slay Craven Elves who ran away, Eighty Dwarves held fire at bay; Azaghal used his knife! Fifty of the Naugrim fell Beneath the Sun that day! None know it but the Dwarves alone: Though Valinor they may have known, In battle Noldor Elves are prone To up and run away! - DeBeneEsse, November 1997

Hulk (Widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition)
The larger-than-life Marvel Super Hero the Hulk explodes onto the big screen! After a freak lab accident unleashes a genetically enhanced, impossibly strong creature, a terrified world must marshal its forces to stop a being with abilities beyond imagination.

When the Hulk gets angry, his movie gets good, so you wish he'd get angry more often. Accepting this challenge after the triumphant Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, director Ang Lee has created an ambitious film, based on the Marvel comic created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, that succeeds as a cautionary tale about mad science and traumatized children coping with legacies of pain. That's the Hulk's problem: After accidental exposure to gamma radiation, scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) turns into the huge, green, and indestructible Hulk when provoked, and repressed childhood memories fuel his fury. Hobbled by the obligatory "origin story" (to acquaint neophytes with the character's Jekyll-and-Hyde-ish fate), there's room for little else in a sluggish film that struggles to reconcile Lee's stylistic flair (evident in his visual interpretation of comic-book technique) with the razzle-dazzle of a megabudget franchise. What's good is good (Jennifer Connelly essentially echoes her role from A Beautiful Mind, and Nick Nolte is righteously tormented as Banner's father), but the movie's schizoid intentions remain largely unclear. --Jeff Shannon
