Ok January 15th was National Recycling Day! One would never have known it here in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Nothing in the weekly rags nor anything in the two daily rags. Imagine that!, on an island already bursting at the seams with trash. Whether its in the landfills, along with the current debacle where the next "dump" or landfill will be. No one wants it in their backyard and the one of the brightesty idea yet, having the new landill, "dump" inside Koko Crater . Now it seemsthe outgoing Mayor Jeremy 'worthless" Harris will flex what seems his only muscle in the wanning days of his mayorship. Where was he the whole time the city council has not performed for the people of this island. The other trash being the amount of litter that continues to deface 'Mother Earth's' carpeting. So I decided to do what some thought was crazy, that is transvesre Oahu, attempting to wake up the sleepers , the importance and obligation we have as citizens to recycle, both for the landfill space we can save now and assure that the children of today have a place to dump their trash, too. Mike posted the essay to the blog while i was on the road. Mike is a friend who was watching the 'kids' my two lovebirds, Miss J..J. and Baby Baby, watering the plants and babysitting the Apartment. Mike also was the one who was posting the pics and text i was sending him via phone/e-mail. Sam set the blog up for me. His wife, Leslie and I met in Seattle while she was volunteering at a group home i was living at. She tought me so much about organic gardening and we had one of ther greast 1st year gardens anyone could ever see. Thanx Sam!!! So one the morning of november 15th, Mike and me unfurled the OahuRecycles Banner at the rock garden. See pics from Sunday the 21st. I initially was looking for a mini stonehedge look at the garden yet on the full moons of August and September the garden was vandalized. , i went with what turned out to be a more alter motiff. Which has withstood 2 full moons now. The banner was unfurled t 7:15 am (i ws hoping for a 12:01 unfurling) better late than never and i departed from the Church of the Crorsroads which is where the Foodbasket has their distibution storefront. The Foodbasket is the organization i ws volunteering for and a client of that lost the Ford Explorer. I called the vechicle 'Eddie'. I departed at 7:30 am and headed up East/West road through the Univesity Ok January 15th was National Recycling Day! One would never have known it here in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. I wasn't entirely happy with this arrangement -- the suction cups I used to anchor the tarp to the trailer didn't hold all that well -- but it worked okay.
