Another Visit from Aunt Neti
Another Visit from Aunt Neti
This is me doing nasal lavage with a neti pot. My allergies got so bad a couple of weeks ago that I had to take three days off work. My neighbor's son-in-law recommended the neti pot. You may have heard of it; it's an ancient yogic practice, actually. You fill up the pot with warm salt water, stick the spout up one nostril, tilt your head to the side, and breathe through your mouth while letting the water run through your sinuses and out the other nostril. Quick and easy, really! And my sinuses thank me. The challenge was figuring out how to take a photo of myself doing the neti. I used a tripod and remote shutter actuator, or course. I played around with various angles, focal lengths, etc. I wanted to get a shot of myself both in person and in the mirror, yet I didn't want the camera to appear in the mirror. I chose this angle because I didn't want to shoot into a window and have the lighting thrown off. Since there's a stream of water involved, I also experimented with various shutter speeds so that there would be enough of a "stream" and not just isolated drops. All in all, I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Andy & I love to have little family jokes and call things funny names. When we use our Nasonex (we both do), we call it "doing your snort." When we use the neti pot, we call it "Aunt Neti" and we say it in the Southern way (or Ebonic) way, like "Ahnt Nettih." It's just family fun to keep things light. ;-) By the way, Andy thinks it's strange that I took and posted this photo. Do you?
