So why have I called this one splurge? Well, I noticed that as I was getting bored with posting to lots of groups, I was browsing Flickr less and not coming across so many new favourite photographs. I had already installed Slickr screensaver for my PC which pulls photographs from Flickr and displays them on your desktop, so I spent a couple of days going through these and searching back on Flickr for the originals of those I found interesting. Which led to a splurge of favourites all at once, mostly from interestingness pages which I don't normally like to do (I don't like being told what is interesting, it tends to put me off!) but I put that aside for now and just focused on what I liked to look at. The topics of the photos also represent a splurge to me personally: of food (experimenting with new things and not being so strict as before), of weather (with our crazy UK weather - snow storms in March, torrential rain, and now what looks like a mini heat wave), of emotions (yet more guys, yet more heartache). Funny how much you can see of yourself in other people's photographs, isn't it? Anyway as a thank you and tribute to the great photographers on Flickr, here are my fourth hundred favourite pics : )

Click on ALL SIZES, then print a copy of the Original size. Make copies for all the kids in your classroom. Understanding the difference between myth and fact is part of Pennsylvania's Science Standards. Not sure how most teachers deal with the topic. It might be fun to ask kids to bring in a myth/fact that they are unsure about, and then the class can explore ways to find out the answer. My son's first grade class had a long unit on Greek gods, which were presented as myths not factual characters. Fairly uncontroversial because Zeus et al. are not actively worshipped these days (at least not in Swarthmore, PA). Are texts of old religions shelved as works of fiction? I'd guess this is a sensitive issue for librarians. True believers would never want _their_ religion in the fiction section, I suspect. Similarly, if you write a work of fiction or describe a new religion, but want it to be shelved in nonfiction, will the library shelving police follow your wishes?
