About Gaiam
Gaiam was created as a lifestyle company with the vision that, given a choice, people would choose a lifestyle that is healthy and life enhancing, for themselves, their families and the Earth. The Gaiam lifestyle is a vote for individual health as well as the future sustainability of the Earth's resources. Gaiam strives to provide customers with alternatives to traditional products by offering natural, or healthy versions that compare with the style, quality and price of conventional products.
Gaiam's goal is to become the trusted source and unifying brand for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) participants. They understand that the opportunity to affect people's lives with information and products is both a privilege and a responsibility. Gaiam believes in the concept of Conscious Commerce, the practice of making purchasing decisions based on personal values and beliefs. It takes into consideration all the aspects of our lives and the impact we have upon the planet. Research indicates this concept appeals to approximately 50 million people in the U.S. alone. Gaiam's strategy in delivering the distinctive quality for which they are known is to partner with experts in health/wellness, eco-living and personal development to develop proprietary products that meet our customers' needs with meaningful solutions.
The name GAIAM is a fusion of the words Gaia (the name of Mother Earth from the Minoan civilization in ancient Crete), and I am reminds us that we are all interconnected with the Earth, the air and water, and very much a part of this living system that sustains us all.

one of the things about my slow year is that I am letting myself buy food if we truly need it, (at the organic food store that is about as big as a shoebox). this way we reduce the amount of packaged food that I purchase. its full swing summer here and the trees are FULL of apricots, peaches, pear, plums, fig, you name it, we've got it. my maternal instincts guide me to make baby food ahead of time for amaya, for the winter she will have glorious apricots and peaches and cream. i might eat one or two as well. I steamed the halved and pitted apricots, then forced them thru a strainer; I am left with pure apricot fleshy goodness; into the smart freezer thing a jiggy and two days later i pop them out into zip locks with their names on it. for us adults, i slice them in half, sprinkle with lemon juice and freeze in a baggy. between our trees, grandpa's, our friends and wildharvesting --read side of the road-- we will have a freezer full of summer for this winter and that makes me very happy

For this baby bed shot I wanted a hard wood floor, but since I haven't gotten one yet, I scoped out the clients house. I found this LITTLE piece at the landing of their stairs. I actually used the baby's comforter for the backdrop because they bought the tutu to match her room so they could frame the picture up in her room. But, because we were in between two sets of stairs, I was unable to use my backdrop stand. I couldn't clamp to stairs because the room was cramped and I had to shoot at an angle. So, I had mom holding the blanket from behind. Very little natural light so, I had to supplement with bounced flash from my 580ex.
