How many boxes of baby clothes do you have tucked away, collecting dust?
If you are like me, I could not part with any of my 5 boy's baby clothes!
Every shirt, onesie, sleeper or outfit has a special meaning; the first outfit Daddy bought, the polar bear pj's from his favourite Auntie, the onesie from Grandma, the outfit he took his first steps in, the tiny shirt from our first family vacation! Baby clothes acquire history so quickly....
For those items that are too precious to part with, a Baby Clothes Memory Quilt is the perfect solution. It is a great way to preserve memories and emotions that each item holds and is sure to become a treasured, long-lasting family heirloom!
Items that can be included in making these quilts include; onesies, shirts, pants, sleepers, face clothes, blankets, bibs etc.
I find that 20-30 is usually a good number of outfits to include in this type of quilt.
They measure approximately 42" x 42".

Baby Clothes Memory Quilts are unique in every way. It is very obvious that these quilts demand a great deal of attention and care when choosing the patterns, fabric, batting and to highlight every minor detail. Infant clothing tends to be made of stretchy material. Therefore, once the clothing has been cut into the appropriate block size, I will fuse it to a backing fabric to prevent stretching. The design will be created using as much detail from the items as possible; the cute design from the t-shirt, the ruffles from the pretty dress, the appliqué teddy bear from his favourite outfit, the logo from his fuzzy sleeper!
Once the top has been pieced together, I will sandwich the batting between the quilt top and a quilter's cotton used for the backing. The Baby Clothes Memory Quilt will be machine quilted using the stitch-in-the-ditch method. It will be finished off with a binding colour that will compliment the overall look of the quilt.
I will provide the backing and binding fabric, thread, batting, fusible webbing, and any other materials needed to complete the quilt. All you will need to provide is the baby clothes!
