Torrie @ Rialto Towers
Torrie @ Rialto Towers
The story goes like this. I'd planned to the Royal Botanic Gardens to get some photos of Miss Torrie in her new dress but got derailed by the morning cloud/fog. Eventually the sun came out and I thought "fuck it!" and made a rush to get ready and haul our asses out of the house. We get to the gardens and it's an absolute fucking zoo. Tourists and kids and dogs everywhere and a noise that made me grit my teeth. Now, I know the gardens aren't mine, they're for everyone to enjoy but seriously, have some god damn respect for the place you're in! There's plenty of parklands and playgrounds for you and your fucking spawn to horse around in, the Botanic Gardens themselves should be a quiet, reserved place, much like a library. In fact; a library of plants. There's a reason they refer to it as a garden rather than a park or playground, behave accordingly you obnoxious idiots! So anyway, our visit to the garden basically consisted of me entering one gate feeling positive and motivated then leaving immediately via the opposite gate feeling tense and hateful. I had no backup plan but a few quiet lanes came to mind, I remembered passing them a month or so ago and thinking they'd be nice to shoot Torrie in, but as I passed each one they were dirty with rotten late-autumn leaves and litter from the windy weather. By this time my heart had sunk and I just wanted to be home but then, as I'd turned around to head back I passed the lane between the Rialto tower and the hotel beside it. Quiet, clean(ish) and the combination of grey tiles and red bricks really appealed to my sense of aesthetics. It was really nice. So I settled in and, wouldn't you know it, as soon as I started unpacking the security guard came up to me! Luckily he just wanted to make sure I was careful around the glass wall (I'd put my things beside it and had my back to it) which is fair enough, it was a wall made of glass after all. There were very few pedestrians which made taking photos a whole lot easier and less stressful. If you know me you know how impossibly self-conscious I can be, especially when I'm with my dolls. There's a HUGE difference between being confident in your passion online and being confident in your passion when facing the real world. I don't, not even for a second, feel any sense of shame when it comes to being a guy who's into dolls but I hate the feeling that I have to justify it or explain it to other people. Lucky for me most of the pedestrians were tourists, too, so I was either just another "bit smoke" weirdo to them or they had kids and it's hard to look down your nose at my baby when your daughter just wants her sooooo bad. ;) Torrie was well behaved, the arcade was very nice, we got some nice photos taken and I got to learn a bit more about my confusing new lens. All-in-all it was quite a good day salvaged from what could have been yet another horrible Sunday.
