Why Babies Do That: Baffling Baby Behavior Explained
Why Babies Do That: Baffling Baby Behavior Explained
As soft, warm, and cuddly as they are, babies often display puzzling behaviors that can startle, concern, and leave both novice parents and seasoned grandparents scratching their collective heads in bemusement.

After all, many newborns emerge into the world with cone-shaped heads, half-closed eyes, and wrinkled, peeling skin. Some even have acne.

As they grow, they continue to make funny noises, they find specs of dust in the air so fascinating they will cross their eyes to follow them, they enjoy sucking on their own toes, and they cough, splutter, spit up, and drool!

This unique books explains key baby behaviors parents and other caregivers encounter in babies between 0 and one year old.

The behaviors range from the truly bizarre (why do babies play with their own poop?) to the truly lovable (why do babies love to be cuddled?) and everything in between.

This witty and informative book not only informs but also inspires the reader to play peek-a-boo, cuddle, bounce, and enjoy everything unique about babies.

In photographs and prose, Why Babies Do That captures some of a baby's finest, albeit fleeting, moments.

Me: How did your family react? I mean, to you guys adopting? Mom: Well...adoption was not common in those days. And I think that Nanny and Aunt Millie was at first skeptical. Grandpa was very enthusiastic. Uncle John was...you know, he more sided with Grandpa. And no-one in our family had adopted a baby. Nanny throughout the whole process put a lot of pressure on me to ask for a girl. Me: Why was that? Mom: Because she thought every mother should have a daughter. I could never understand her logic. She loved her brothers, and they could almost do no wrong. But when anyone in the family had a boy she was a little cool, and more enthusiastic when they had a daughter. I did not want to specify a boy or girl—though you were allowed to do that—because if were to have a baby naturally, I would not be able to choose. And besides, I didn't really care either way, I just wanted a baby. When I called Nanny to tell her she was a grandma—right after Sister Mary Paul called me, and after Daddy and I were excited—she said, "What is it?" And I said, "A boy." And Nanny said, "Can't you refuse it and wait for a girl?" And I said "Absolutely not." And she was not a happy camper. I was crushed. But when I saw Tommy and his big blue eyes, one of my first thoughts was that there really is a God in heaven, because Nanny loved blue eyes and always hated my brown eyes. My brown eyes were like my father's. Nanny had blue eyes. And blue eyes for people with Italian descent were a rarity, and Nanny was very proud of hers. So when Nanny came and saw him she flipped out over Tommy, and thought he was the most beautiful baby she'd ever seen. And from that day forward, Tommy was Nanny's favorite grandchild. I mean, I don't mean to insult you by saying that! Me: Oh no no. I knew that. I'm not insulted. Though, I had blue eyes, you know! Mom: [laughs] I know. I know you did. But it just wasn't the same.

If you only knew my daughter! She is thinking... MOM! I do not feel good! Will you please stop taking my picture! She had this beauitiful new dress her grammy got her. I had to try it on and get a couple cute shots in the living room. She doesn't feel very good at all! She is in many other photos in my stream and you can see she is normally HAPPY GO LUCKY! All full of smiles! But here this was different for her. So that is why I loved it!
