Newly Born Baby Gorilla and Mother
Mother gorilla licks her new born baby, minutes after its birth. I was incredibly lucky to be there while the baby was born. The pregnant female was above us on a hill, with the other gorillas. Next thing she came rolling down the hill on her side, and disappeared into the bushes below. The others followed, running right past us. Our group followed and eventually caught up with the mother and new born infant, watched by other females and an adolescent. It was an incredible "one in a million" experience. Guided mountain trek to see the Gorillas in their natural habitat, Volcanoes National Park, Ruhengeri The species of mountain gorillas is one of the most endangered species in the world. In this park over a dozen extended families of gorillas live. The park limits the number of visitors - each gorilla family can be viewed by one group of 10 people for only one hour per day.
