Kicking it to Cancer - October 29th, 2016
Soccer vs. Cancer Weekend
In honor of cancer awareness month, we are designating our games on October 29th as our Soccer vs. Cancer fundraiser. Players and coaches will wear pink and black t-shirts (home team pink and visiting team black) provided by the Region. We will be on site delivering shirts pre-games. During the games, we are asking parents to make donations for each goal scored by their team during their respective games. Team parents, please design a goal can for this purpose. Monies will be turned in to the AYSO tent upon conclusion of your respective games.
In addition to games, we will also be hosting two additional events and are in need of volunteers to help:
Goal-a-thon: Players to collect pledges the week before the game. During the games on October 29th, we will set up a field for the Goal-a-thon Shoot out (schedule will be provided). Monies will be collected during the week after the event and turned into the Coach who will then turn it into their respective Division Coordinators. The Goal-a-Thon Form can be found at:
We will have an additional booth where players can make a goal for $2/each and clock the speed of their kick.
Bracelets will be sold on site as well and a general donation bucket available for those wishing to give more.
If you have a a parent on your team willing to assist the Region in the endeavor as a volunteer, please have them contact your Division Coordinator. Together, we can make this event a success!
Why are we doing this? We know that cancer affects everyone at some level. This year, it has come to our attention that one of our own is fighting this battle within their own immediate family. Coach Fernando Sepulveda’s 17 year old son was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma. This young man was a prior player in our Region as well. We would like to raise funds to help them during this difficult time. And we would like to make an additional donation to the Kick for the Cure Tournament that our Challenge Teams will represent us at.
The team that collects the most donations will win a pizza party provided by the Region by age group (U12 and U14 will be combined in this endeavor).
Help us help one of our own, as well as funding the research that will stop cancer in its tracks.
Open Registration is one of AYSO's six philosophies. All children between the age of 4 years (by December 31st) and 18 years (by August 1st) may register to play soccer. Players age 3 (by September 24th) may register for our Playtime Adventure Program. Players need not have any prior experience. The only limitation on registration is finding enough PARENTS willing to VOLUNTEER to coach and be referees. (ask us how to become a volunteer)
