The Fall season officially came to a close yesterday as the Area playoffs wrapped up. It was a great weekend of soccer. Congratulations to the following teams:
CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM: Coach Floyd’s U12 Girls’ team won the Area playoffs beating Mission Viejo 3-1 in the finals. This after defeating Coach Harris’ team (another Laguna Hills team) on penalty kicks in the semi-finals. Coach Floyd’s team will represent Laguna Hills in the Section Playoffs in February. Congratulations!
RUNNER UP TEAMS: Coach Frey’s U14 Girls’ team lost a heart breaker in the Championship Game to Laguna Beach. They went to penalty kicks (after a 1-1 tie in regulation) and ended up losing by one goal. Coach Underwood’s U10 Boys’ team also lost in the finals to a tough Lake Forest team. Great seasons for both of these teams.
SEMI-FINALISTS: In addition to Coach Harris U12 Girls’ team, that lost in the semi-finals to Coach Floyd’s Laguna Hills’ team, Coach CJ’s U12 Boys’ team also made it to the semi-finals. They lost a heart breaker (3-2) to a Lake Forest team. Congrats on a great season!
As you can see, Region 1422 teams performed incredibly well. To put things in perspective, we are the second smallest of the 10 Regions in South Orange County. We have about 650 players and Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, San Clemente and Lake Forest all have over 1,500 kids. We had 5 teams (out of 24 semi-final teams) make the semi-finals, and 3 teams (out of 12 finals teams) make the Championship game. Those percentages are pretty amazing when you consider our relative size. It’s a testament to the great community we have.
EXTRA TEAMS: We would also like to recognize several of our Extra teams that did great during the fall. Coach Najah’s U11 Boys’ team came in first place during the regular season. Coach Jensen’s U13 Girls’ team came in 3rd place in the regular season. Congrats on a great season to these and all our Extra teams!
Will Ferrell made an appearance on Sunday night's Emmys to present the final two awards, and along with him, he brought his three sons.
The surprise of the night: His kids were decked out in 50th anniversary AYSO jerseys! Will joked that he brought his kids along because the Emmys asked him last minute to present.
"We had a soccer game, there was a neighbor's birthday party, a nut allergy...I didn't have time to do my hair! It doesn't matter, it's great to be here."

for their success in the Spring season. See photos.
We had 14 Laguna Hills teams competing in the Spring Tournament the weekend of May 18-19 with 11 placing in the top 4. It was a great soccer weekend and a wonderful way to end the Spring season. The following teams did especially well in the tournament, which considering that we are the second smallest Region, speaks volumes about the AYSO program in Laguna Hills.
Mayor Barbara Kogerman commended Laguna Hills AYSO for its accomplishments in receiving a Gold Award from AYSO. -- 05/19/2013
