Jamboree

August 21, 2014

Fall Soccer is right around the corner. As we prepare to start AYSO's 50th soccer season, we wanted to give you some information about the Jamboree program.

  • The objective of this program is to provide young players and their parents with a “pressure free” introduction to the game of soccer. At this age, players should be exposed to soccer by playing simple, fun activities and games that require little to no practice, and a minimal time commitment. This program allows players to discover the game for themselves, while parents are given a soccer foundation on which to build and grow into future AYSO coaches, referees and administrators.

  • The Jamboree program starts on September 6th at Lower Cabot Park field. We will have a girls’ session from 8:15 to about 9:30 and a boys’ session from 10:00 to about 11:15. It will be run by professional UK Soccer coaches, complete with English accents. It is an 8 week program that will end October 25th . If you cannot make all the sessions, it's not that big a deal. There are no practices during the week. If you know someone who wants to play, they can still sign up.

  • Each session will run for 75 minutes,** include a 10 minute warm up (break), soccer drill/activity for 10 minutes (break), another soccer drill/activity for 10 minutes (break) and then 3 v 3 scrimmage for 20 minutes with a break.

  • AYSO will provide soccer shirts and soccer socks for the kids. They will be handed out on Monday August 25th from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Laguna Hills Community Center (LHCC) fields and then again on September 6th at Cabot Park if you cannot make it on August 25th. You will need to have the kids wear shorts, cleats (or sneakers) and shin guards. The shin guards go under/inside the socks. Please also have them bring a size 3 soccer ball with their last name on it to each session. You can get shin guards and soccer balls at any sporting goods store.

  • We will stripe a few soccer fields and have several sets of goals. We will need your help striping the fields and setting up/breaking down the goals each Saturday. It take about 10 minutes to stripe a field and 5 minutes to set up and break down the goals.

  • Abby Lloyd volunteered to be the Jamboree Coordinator. She will be the central point of contact between the Jamboree parents and the AYSO Region. One of our goals is to get as many parents involved now so that you can coach the following year at U6. Abby’s email address is U05@ayso1422.org.

  • There will be a brief informational meeting on Saturday September 6th at the beginning of each of the sessions where you can ask questions.
We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Thanks for your support of Laguna Hills AYSO!
