APC To Save Youth Club 7 Dec 2012

Email Received From Aylesham Parish Council - You may be interested too in our attempts to save the youth club building which closes on 21 December. Any expressions of support to the PC at this email address for trying to do this would be gratefully received.

Dear Nigel (KCC)
Following Marie's email to you about this on 3 December,  I am emailing as DDC Cllr and Aylesham Parish Clerk to say that the Parish Council would like to use the 'Asset Transfer'  element of  the Localism Act to apply formally for the Aylesham Youth Club building asset to be transferred across to the Parish Council to run as a community asset for the benefit of the people and local groups (all ages), in Aylesham to use, rather than have it mothballed/sold off when the youth services move out on 21 December. Because of this closure date - only 2 weeks away - we should be grateful if you could acknowledge receipt of this notification, and send us all the relevant paperwork to complete as soon as possible.

Nigel Baker told us that the running costs of the building (not the youth service provision, just the building) were about £8000 annually, which the PC can afford to pay. Local groups would also provide voluntary labour to maintain the building which would make the running costs lower as well. The already considerable local need for this facility will be increased when the 1200 houses under the Aylesham Development Plan are built - work is expected to start on this in the summer of 2013.

We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible please.
Many thanks
