So I didn't get any sleep the night before, and I wasn't going to hang around until noon waiting to go to the club, so I made some breakfast and got ready and sorted out and left early with my Mum (who was organising it). I was sat over to one side, in a little "VIP" area, which was being reserved for band members and crew members. I got a few shots of the first band, Pseudonympho. They were helping out with the soundchecks and they were the first band to arrive, but about halfway into their set the houselights went down and I learnt how poorly equipped I was to shoot a music gig. I really don't like using flash. Mostly because I don't use it, I suppose, so I don't have the experience and knowledge of what to expect and how to use it properly. Not to mention that I've never had anything other than on-camera flash, which isn't great. And I feel even more intrusive pointing my camera at people AND using the flash. So I tried to get a few shots with the darker lighting, but it wasn't really workable for me. A few bands later I was pretty much falling asleep, too, despite the loud music. I actually think that the loud sound, especially the lower frequencies, made it worse. White noise makes me sleepy. Anyway... I was trying to make a point, I think. I'm watching South Park and browsing the web and making breakfast and going to the shop... but I was going to say that this photo is my favourite of the ones that I took. This woman was sat right in front of me, so I got to use my shorter lens (50mm) and obviously you can't photograph a punk event without getting at least one shot of someone's mohican. The band on-stage is "Hospital Food", and that dark figure is someone else taking photos. I think the band was just setting up at the time. 50mm f/1.8D @ f/1.8, 1/125 sec, ISO 1600, EV -1 Lots of post-processing. I tweaked the exposure in Lightroom, and did the B&W conversion in Photoshop, followed by some messing about with curves and levels.
Day 309/365 - Stockeld Fireworks
Day 309/365 - Stockeld Fireworks
Day Three-hundred-and-nine ... This is the final 'present-day' shot for a while. Somewhere in this catchup I've managed to create I have to head back to the last day of July, then locate the remainder of my missing August and September! Honestly, useless does not begin to describe me. So, moving swiftly on ... Every year another of our 'traditions' is to visit Father Christmas at Stockeld Park, which is just outside Wetherby on the road to Harrogate. It's THE most amazing place, with an enchanted forest, christmas tree maze and an eco-friendly ice rink. However - even someone as giddy about Christmas as me thinks it's a tad early to visit Santa on the fifth-of-November (okay, I checked, he wasn't there yet ;p), so although we had a browse around the Christmas shop, today was more about fireworks!! Stockeld put on one of (if not the) best firework display in the area and there's no expense spared as twenty minutes of bangs and pops and whooshes continue incessantly over the forest, which of course wouldn't be complete without a classical music accompaniment over the tannoy. This was a 1.6 second exposure, handheld at ISO 200, f/8. And strangely it was only when posting this that I realised I hadn't changed the time on my camera when the clocks went back the other week. Utterly, utterly useless ;)
