ACT is a group open to anyone in Axbridge or the surrounding area with an interest in theatre and theatrical productions. The main purpose of the group is the staging of plays, and we currently aim to put on two productions a year. One of these is directed by the group's Artistic Director, John Bailey - in recent years this has included Neil Simon's Rumours, Shakespeare's Macbeth and Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge. Other members interested in directing are invited to put forward proposals for the second production, which has included Fred Carmichael's Out of Sight . . Out of Murder directed by Diane Lukins, Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion directed by Wendy Mace and Tom Stoppard's A Separate Peace and The Real Inspector Hound directed by David Parkin. We believe we have built a reputation for a high standard of production and it is aim to maintain this.
Other activities of the group include regular play readings, occasional theatre visits and some social events. We are also considering other possibilities including drama workshops and sponsoring visiting theatre groups in Axbridge.
ACT has no formal membership structure, though this is under review. At present we keep a mailing list of members and everyone is kept informed of all activities and developments by e-mail. If you would like to join ACT please use the contact form on the Contact us page - we will reply to you, and you will be added to our mailing list.
ACT is managed by an Annual General Meeting open to all members. This meeting decides on the general development of the group, and elects a Management Committee. The members of the Management Committee are:
We also have a youth wing, Young ACT, which provides for members from 8 up to teenage (see the Young ACT page)
