Bose Aviation Headset X (Portable with Straight Cable)
Preferred by pilots, year after year
Bose pioneered active noise reducing headsets nearly 20 years ago, and pilots continue to prefer the Bose Aviation Headset X today. For nine years in a row, it's been rated #1 in Professional Pilot's annual survey, claiming 2009's top honors for comfort, clarity and technical advancement.
Packed with headset innovations
A rare combination of benefits helps distinguish this headset from all other pilot headsets. Most importantly, Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headset technology, pioneered by Bose, dramatically reduces the engine roar you hear in the cockpit.
Here's how it works: Small microphones in each earcup monitor ambient sound. Innovative electronics immediately identify the unwanted noise and create an opposite signal to reduce it. The result? You hear dramatically less engine noise, and more of your communications.
This advanced noise reduction technology combines with exclusive Bose headset design and active EQ to provide you with quality audio in a compact headset weighing only 12 ounces.
Lighter is better
With lighter, more compact earcups, Aviation Headset X requires significantly less clamping force than most noise reduction headsets. Many pilots say this easy-on-the-head design makes a big difference in how they feel after a long flight
The solid magnesium headband is also extremely lightweight and durable. A sheepskin cushion eliminates hot spots, and soft ear cushions provide an effective seal, even over glasses.
Long battery life, smart controls
Proprietary AdaptiSense® headset circuitry gives you at least 40 hours of headset use from just two AA alkaline batteries. This Bose innovation automatically adjusts the headset's need for power according to the levels of cockpit noise and radio communications.

don't need you to tell me what's going down
don't need you to tell me what's going down
From up here the world looks small and remote, and even those mountains seem insignificant. You don’t really get a feeling for how fragile it all is, though. Here I am on my way from Brussels in Belgium to Ljubljana in Slovenia. For a meeting to discuss what research is needed to help support policies to prevent further loss of the planet’s biodiversity. There’ll be 60 or so of us there, I suppose, coming from Ireland, Portugal, Norway, and many other European countries. Except for the scientists and policy makers from our host country, we will all be coming by air. Shortly after I got on the plane, we were treated to a commercial for the airline, which guarantees the lowest fares for all European flights in and out of Brussels. Not long ago, the meeting would have been scheduled at the weekend to take advantage of the low round-trip costs if you stayed over Saturday night. Then for a while travel agencies would organise “crossed tickets”, since two round-trip weekend tickets were cheaper than a single ticket in the week. Today, of course, some airlines almost pay you to fly with them. It may not cost my employer much to fly me to Slovenia, but the environment still pays the full fare. Not only do aircraft account for a ballooning volume of greenhouse gas emissions (doubling each decade since the 1960s), but they do it most on short-haul flights and inject their gasses far higher up in the atmosphere than the most rampant smokestack. My flight contributes its bit to the sizable and growing proportion of global GHG emissions. Before I die, assuming that I get another 20 years, and assuming that business continues miraculously as usual, aircraft will be contributing to more than 10% of the anthropogenic radiative forcing affecting the planet, and a great deal more than that over Europe, where air traffic is the densest in the world. But of course, business will not continue as usual, and the skies will no longer be full of vapour trails – except those made by the super-rich. Title: Stone Roses - Fool’s Gold
What? You said compacts are ok! (234/365)
What? You said compacts are ok! (234/365)
Note that when I'm shooting random objects at home you'll know that I'm having a lazy day relaxing rather than gigging or seeing friends (though when I'm seeing friends chances are you'll just get photos of restaurants and food mainly because all my friends me taking photos of them :() This is one of my favourite chuckles. The idea that you could potentially goto a gig with this bad boy and break the whole loophole of "no professional cameras". You just show them the ickle compact camera and then BAM! Attach a speedlite 580 exii and flash the guard whilst sneaking into the gig with a 5d mk ii whilst he's still dazed from the flash and that its actually ok to bring a compact with a hefty flashgun. It wont' really work to be honest, but attaching it to the compact still gets me giggling, not to mention how the compact is smaller than the flash. The other thing is such a monster! I was hoping to take a photo of this light on at night but the whole thought process was "ah, might just shoot this at night since im lazy, i can just use my flas...oh". Am wondering when I'll actually use poor little Eve here, you can tell she's gathering dust ever since Regina came in the mix. I can't really think of any situation when I'll be using good old Eve :(. Ideas? Most gigs I bring Regina just for smuggling thrills. Eve was pretty ace for filming shows but even that is obsulete after the 5d got in on the hd videos. Maybe I should just tape my compact to my iphone. Kinda getting sad that 365 is ending in a few months, but I wouldn't mind having days where I don't take photos at all.
