Andreas Slominski: ‘The Roter Sand Lighthouse and a Stroke Luck’ exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt am Main. The installations make a humorous comment on modern culture. ‘Rollstuhl zum Queren der Treppe in Odessa’ / ‘Wheelchair to cross the Stairs in Odessa’. The large flight of stairs that leads down to the port of Odessa was called Richelieu or Boulevar Steps until 1955 when it was renamed the ‘Potemkin Steps’ which relates to Sergei Eisenstein’s famous silent movie ‘Battleship Potemkin’ (1925). It was on these steps he staged the impressive scene of a massacre. The czar’s soldiers marched down the sheer endless steps, firing indiscriminately into the mass of people fleeing before them.
