Birgit Kaufmann is an assistant professor of mathematics and physics at Purdue. She is part of the condensed matter physics - theoretical research group. She earned her PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany and has received fellowships and grants from Germany, France and Poland. She gained experience from the laboratories of Paris and Grenoble, France and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Southern California. Her mathematical physics research interests are in condensed matter physics and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. She plays the flute and speaks English, French, German and Italian.
