Membership & Donations

The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics is

  • to encourage women and girls to study and to have active careers in the mathematical sciences, and
  • to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences
Support the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) and its many programs
 by becoming a member and by contributing regularly.

Why belong to AWM?

Membership dues keep this Association running. Your membership helps to cover our modest administrative expenses and the costs of our website and newsletter production. Some of our ongoing programs are partially funded from membership fees, while federal grants and corporate and private contributions provide the bulk of that funding.

Individual Membership

  • AWM's membership year is from October 1st to September 30th.
  • Members receive AWM listserv announcements, including links to the electronic version of each issue of the AWM Newsletter, and discounted registration for AWM conferences.  Regular members can receive the print version of the AWM Newsletter six times per year.
  • Membership is not restricted to women; men can and are encouraged to join!
  • Rates: Standard membership is $70, but new paying members get a reduced first-year rate of $35. Contributing Membership is $160, which now includes nominating a student for free membership in AWM (dues in excess of $90 are deductible from federal taxable income when itemizing). Part-time employed and retired, $30; additional family member, $35; students and unemployed, $20.
  • AWM-SIAM reciprocity: Individual members of SIAM qualify for reciprocal membership rates in AWM. Current SIAM members may join AWM at the individual membership rate of $30 per year for the first two years of membership.
  • AWM-KWMS Affiliate Membership: Individual members of the KWMS who reside outside the United States qualify for Affiliate Membership in the AWM.   The membership fee will be $30 (US) per year for affiliate members of the AWM.  Affiliate members will receive benefits of regular AWM membership but are not eligible to receive the print version of the AWM Newsletter.

  • Outreach Membership: Members in developing nations can join AWM at the discounted rate of $10 per year.  The list of developing nations can be found here.
  • Student Chapter Membership: Students who are currently members of an AWM. Student Chapters are eligible to sign up for a complimentary AWM membership.

  • Subscription Membership: Libraries, women's studies centers, non-mathematics departments, etc., may purchase a subscription for $75 per year.  

Institutional Membership

Please fill out this printable PDF form and follow the instructions for paying online. You can scan and email the completed form to awm@awm-math.org after you have paid online. AWM sponsors a wide variety of exciting programs that encourage girls and women to study mathematics and have active careers in  the mathematical sciences.   • AWM Annual Giving Campaign - General funds go directly into AWM's operating budget to expend during the fiscal year.

  • AWM Anniversary Endowment Fund - Donations are restricted funds. Here only the interest earned is available for expenditures. 

  • AWM Alice T. Schafer Prize - Donations are restricted funds which support the annual Alice T. Schafer Prize

The Association for Women in Mathematics is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Our Tax ID Number is 23-735-4959.

Our non-profit tax exempt status has been reinstated as of June 5, 2017.  Any donations made after September 12, 2016 are retroactively tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
