AWM Fellows

LAUNCH OF THE AWM FELLOWS PROGRAM

The Executive Committee of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has established the AWM Fellows Program to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to the support and advancement of women in the mathematical sciences, consistent with the AWM mission: “to encourage women and girls to study and to have active careers in the mathematical sciences, and to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences.”

The inaugural class of the AWM Fellows Program will be announced on October 2, 2017, and be honored on January 10, 2018, at the AWM Reception and Award Ceremony at the Joint Mathematical Meetings (JMM) in San Diego. To initiate the Program, the inaugural class of Fellows has been designated by the AWM Executive Committee drawing from senior members of the past Presidents of the AWM, AWM Life Time Service Award winners, and the AWM Humphreys Award winners, all honors or roles that demonstrate the values of the AWM Fellows Program.

Going forward, a nomination process will be used to select the AWM Fellows. A new class of Fellows will be announced each January at the JMM. The nomination process and deadlines for the 2019 class will be announced in January 2018. When reviewing nominations for the Fellows Program, the selection committee will be flexible in evaluating excellence in any work showing strong evidence of a sustained and lasting commitment to women in the mathematical sciences.
