AWIS-STL Coffee Chat
What: Our November coffee chat will be about paid parental and family leave (for both mothers and fathers!). Over the past few decades, there has been a dramatic shift in that almost half of of two parent households, both parents now work full time, with the mother as the sole or primary breadwinner. At the same time, fathers are taking on more child care responsibilities. Despite this shift towards two-income households, the United States is remains of the few countries that does not guarantee paid leave for new parents. While is a challenging issue that requires much time to and effort to address, we want to create the space to have discussions about paid parental leave, and from sharing our experiences and advice to our hopes and aspirations about the time of work environments that will support the growth of women in STEM fields in the workforce. We hope that you will be able to join us!
