  • (T Shirt (album)) T Shirt is a 1976 album by Loudon Wainwright III. Unlike his earlier records, this (and the subsequent 'Final Exam') saw Wainwright adopt a full blown rock band (Slowtrain) - though there are acoustic songs on T-Shirt, including a talking blues.

Nail polish - the 'SLPR'er' really digs the stuff!
Nail polish - the 'SLPR'er' really digs the stuff!
Nail polish - the 'SLPR'er' really digs the stuff! The 'must-have' basics of our collection, that my wife Wendy and I share together. Most of the major brands are spoken for here. Spataneous, huh? I usually go for the 'combo' look - ie - black and gold, black and green, black and blue, red, white, and blue, etc - which works well with the 'sports teams' look (with matching jerseys of course!) - which most people think looks really awesome when they see me. Why not? It's all in good clean fun and expressive individuality! It all started a long time ago when I posted that one shot of Wendy and I wearing matching red and green for x-mas, my first photo posted on Flickr, and I had tons of comments from people on it which proved to me just how popular this hobby is with many out there. Famous people from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler to the ultimate fighter Chuck Liddell wear the stuff. **************************************************************************************************************** With these shots of my polished nails here in this photoset - I am 'mostly-jokingly' and a 'tiny-bit serious' about testing the waters to see if a nail polish company maybe - just maybe (lol!) - would take an interest in hiring me to promote the stuff for them! In person - I have been told that my overall 'positive personality' - coupled with my general zest for life and infectious enthusiasm - that I indeed have the 'tools' needed to make an excellent salesman for 'the cause!' Hey - don't laugh! - Budweiser has used - frogs, lizards, and even penguins! - to sell their beer! (It may sound conceited, but I think I 'may be' a notch or two above frogs and lizards in the grand evolutionary scheme of things - LOL!) I'm just a fun-loving vintage old-school 'punk-rocker' - a person who probably would have been happier living out on the beaches of California surfing everyday - but who’s trapped in the Midwest. I’ve dabbled with polish ever since I've been ten or so - trying to emulate the rock stars that I idolized - all through grade school, high school, college – and now into my adult life ('adult' life - that's a scary concept!). Why? Just ‘because.’ Just 'because' I dig the stuff and I think it’s cool looking. No further explanation warranted or needed. I don’t know why that tiny minority out there still tries to read something into it that isn’t there, that tries to make it out for more than it is - which is just an old rocker having some good clean innocent fun with colorful nails. To me – unpolished nails are about as boring as driving around in an old primered car, and deciding to wear nail polish is no different than choosing to wear a different hairstyle, a bracelet, necklace, earrings, or what color t-shirt or ballcap to wear for that matter. I was initially inspired early on by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, then David Bowie, then Ozzy, etc - all the 'early pioneers' of the 'rock gods' who wore nail polish. Steven Tyler has worn polished fingers - and toes! - for as long as I can remember! And Ozzy was recently in a cell-phone commercial on TV where you could plainly see his polished fingers messing with the phone, or even better, the recent Superbowl ad - where they showed the guy from KISS holding up the can of Dr. Pepper with his black polished fingers on the can. I guess my photos here show the masses out there that - yes - an 'average-everyday-straight-normal-regular-dude' can indeed 'dig nail polish' - as just another means of self-expression - much like having a colorful tattoo, or earrings or other piercings, or hairstyles-hair coloring, or distinctive clothing choices, etc. Some may say 'Men aren't supposed to like colors.' Huh? What a ridiculous statement. Men are ALREADY into brightly colored sunburst guitars and metalflake bass boats, cars, motorcycles in wild colors, not to mention regular everyday t-shirts and ball-caps, and how about those wild colored ties you see all the TV commentators wearing, where they all seem to wear the bright pink ties now because they show up so well on the TV screen. I am very much my own person - very confident and very much in tune with my inner voice and having a clear vision of my future - who has never paid any attention to what others think about 'stuff', especially such a minor fashion choice such as this. If people can dig it - that's very cool! But if not - 'Oh well.' I don't care either way, because I do it for me, not to please anyone else. Is it for everybody? Probably not. But really - what is? Will every man out there that may dig Mohawks, or three-piece suits, or whatever they like – will they expect to see every other dude out there wearing those things? Nope - it doesn't happen that way. We all like what we like - and 'Viva la Difference!' And don't get me going on the topic of who is really more 'manly' - the man who'll be bold enough to wear the unique stuff, or the insecure guy who stands there whining about how 'he'll never do it in a millio
Awaiting the "Jane Doe" Denouement
Awaiting the "Jane Doe" Denouement
I have not looked at my book for a week. Tonight I have been rereading much of it. I am trying to encourage myself to keep working on it and not lose faith. So I copied a few of my favorite bits to share with you. Bits that, should it ever be published, will not spoil your enjoyment of it. You know, if you happen to read it. (God, writing is such an expectant business!) I've got the whole story to a place of quiet and am now asking my story where it is meant to go? The only thing I know for sure is that it isn't done yet. It hasn't finished where I thought it would finish. Now I'm afraid it may never finish. Not because I don't want to, or can't finish writing it. More that I'm not sure, I'm not clear, where it needs to go now. So I spent the evening reading passages and trying to talk to the spirit of the story to find out what I am supposed to do for it now? You think writers are the masters, and in some degree they are, but in others they are nothing more than sad musicians plucking on the notes of sheet music that has lived already a thousand years in the ether. I know that I will not allow my story to be without hope, because hope is the most elemental reason I am not dead already, but aside from having a slim limitation on my work, it is for the work to speak to me. I wait. I think this is not uncommon. However, I read it, and will continue to read it over and over until the solution, the ending, the denouement will arrive in my heart and ask to be transcribed. We are conduits, (writers), to the life all around us. So here, my friends, are some little snippets for your enjoyment, edification, or derision: as you choose. ************ Yet, like the tiniest grain of wheat, there is nourishment in hope, however spare it may be. Someday there will be an answer to the winter hush of my spirit and my bones will heal. I will untie the effigies from their strings and I will lay them tenderly to rest in the soil of my own choosing, where those dead eyes cannot follow to spoil this gorgeous rest. Then I will know my own name. I will remove the tag from my toe. Walk out of the morgue, into the light. ***************************** It is not agreeable to be caught waiting out Armageddon in filthy panties no matter how many shotguns you have to rest on your knees. ******************************* There they sit for what feels like a hundred years of bleeding; Isaac is cold in his undershirt, but he doesn't move because he would never leave a person to bleed to death. He doesn't question. He has no thoughts right now. Checks pulses, scans the Laundromat, sees that they are completely alone, and off in the distance, cutting the city fugue into ribbons of light is the sound of approaching mercy. ******************************* Homeless people may not have walls to shut you out but you must treat them as though they do. The streets are their home and every time you walk outside, you walk through their rooms. ******************************** It came down to a night, a point of last light, an apex of anger, frustration, and the slurring of degraded expectations with cheap single malt that smells like smoky piss and lingers on the breath like road kill ******************************** A better more ironic weapon God could not devise than the body of a man... ******************************** Yet the cathedral is so beautiful and she believes it holds under its roof the perfect expression of human ardor, longing, hope, and despair. She believes it must be thick with prayer and there are few things more beautiful than the supplicant spirit of mankind. ******************************* "Yes Stallone Pantone, we're alright. You smell so clean. Can I inhale you for a minute before I go?" she asked teasingly, yet secretly completely seriously. ****************************** She didn't speak because he stole her voice. ********************************** It fed the rage; it was right that he should have the prey by the neck here and be able to strip it, gut it, eat it, lick it, and satisfy his musky hunger; the great open never-satisfied demanding hunger that ate away at his own flesh when he didn't feed it prey. Blood. Drugs. Violence. Virgins. ********************** It was all a silent opera now. *********************************** The more I reach out, the more I touch you, grab you, inhale you, the less of you there is and the hungrier I feel. Loneliness and hunger are the diseases of my spirit and there's no medicine to fix it, no food to fill it, no amount of love that will bring me into the circle of the living. ********************* I have sat next to you when you dreamed of others. I have sat next to you when you said their names and I wanted to put my heart into you so that you would rise and take courage and reach again and find everything you ever wanted. I am peripheral. I wanted to be wanted like you wanted them. ****************************** I want t
