We Love Avonmouth - do you?
ACC would not exist without people power -  volunteers who work hard to support the community centre and the people who use it. We employ a Centre Manager, centre assistant, caretaker, cook and a play team  (all part-time) and rely on volunteers to support any activity beyond this. In an ideal world, we would have many more staff, but the reality is that volunteers are needed to make the extra difference to the community. We know that many people love being part of the community in Avonmouth - so if you would like help the centre in its vision to build a stronger, happier community, then why not think about volunteering?

There are a number of ways that you can volunteer...

Volunteer Trustees / Board Members: Monthly meetings are held to oversee and steer the running of the centre. Trustees work with the centre manager to ensure that the centre is moving in the best direction and is doing everything properly. There are positions available to local people, and we are particular looking for people with skills and knowledge that can help the centre. This might be in financial management, organising activities  fundraising, building management, knowledge of the local community... or you might just be enthusiastic and want to get stuck in.

Volunteer Playworkers: If you like working with children in a fun and lively free-play environment, then our Avon Loud Mouth play project could be for you. Our once-weekly term-time project offers a 90 minute session after school on a Thursday (4.30pm to 6pm) to 5 to 12 year old young people. You may already have play work experience, or be looking to gain experience - but most of all, you'll enjoy working in a fast-moving child-centered environment, and providing local young people with opportunities in different types of play - including sports, cookery, art and crafts, music, games, role playing and so on. All volunteers are given a free enhanced Disclosure (Police Check).

Volunteer Gardeners / Handy-people: If you have green fingers (or want to get green fingers!), then your time in helping to keep the ACC garden looking good would be much appreciated. In the warmer weather, the garden is a real sun-trap, so we need to make sure that the plants take centre stage, and not the weeds! Even a small amount of time spent tending the ACC garden makes a huge difference.

Also, if you have a flair for DIY, then we have a 125 year old building that needs you! If you don't mind being on our list of people who we can call on if the centre needs a little bit of TLC (such as painting, new shelves, the odd repair) then you a little bit of your time and energy will go a long way to keeping the centre up and running.

Lunch Club Volunteers: If you enjoy cooking / food preparation, looking after and
Lunch Club Volunteers
serving visitors, or providing company and activities for people, then this role could be for you. Each week, our cook creates up to 30 meals for Lunch Club members, but without the support of volunteers it would not be possible. The Lunch Club team provide a vital service for local people, who may be at risk of social isolation - for many it is their vital link into the community.

IT / Social Media Volunteers: If you know your stuff with IT or if you are a whizz on the internet, and would like to help us promote what we are doing this Website or using Facebook and Twitter etc. then we would welcome your support!

Events Volunteers: ACC occasionally organises events, and relies on volunteers for these to run smoothly. For example, Make Sunday Special 2015 attracted almost 1000 local people, and took a huge amount or organisation! We would also have liked more local people to have volunteered too. Events like this are unlikely to happen in the future if the community does not become involved in the organisation - so if you have the energy and enthusiasm to work with others to make exciting things happen, then this could be a rewarding venture for you!

If any of the above roles appeal to you, then just get in touch to arrange a no-obligation chat; we look forward to hearing from you.
