So I trained for the Edinburgh marathon and lost a little weight - but not as much as I thought I would. I didn't notice any change in my waist at all. I started reading up on it and found out about heart rates: The Fat Burning Zone Definition: In the fat burning zone, the body utlizes stored fat for energy. At approximately 60-70% of your maximum heart rate, 85% of your calories burned in this zone are fats, 5% are proteins and 10% are carbohydrates. At a higher rate of intensity fat burning still takes place however, there is more emphasis on anaerobic systems which generate lactic acid and burn proteins once you have run out of blood sugar. My 60-70% works out at 114 - 133bpm. After 160 metres I went over that zone and didn't get back into it. My average for this run was 179bpm and peaked at 194. So if anyone out there has any tips on getting heart rates down while still enjoying a run I'd be grateful for advice!!

Keeping a log of everything I ate was getting tedious, but it looks like I need to keep track of calories somehow. I'm now keeping a running total in my head.
