365: day 78 (strong women)
in the last year my thoughts about having children have changed tremendously. i used to be completely grossed out by anything related to birth, babies and pregnancy. i believed that all women who had children were giving up their own souls... yes, some do. this saddens me. i've watched many a strong woman lose herself in marriage, child-rearing and god-knows-what else as her own dreams faded into the background of a life never lived. it angered me. it Still does ... but that really doesn't have much to do with having kids. that has to do with identity. it's a fine line. i think i kind of generalized my mom-friends for a long time due to my own possessive ideas about my own physical body and also my artistic and free nature. *i* would never do that, i thought. well, everyone has their own idea of happiness. not everyone is like me. i was wrong. my mindset has changed completely in the last year and a half for many reasons. i have some amazingly strong women in my life who have decided to bring new life into this crazy world of ours. the world needs more women having babies who actually are committed to raising small *individuals* who might make a difference on this earth. i have also photographed a lot of pregnant women in the past year... even though i still do not want to have a baby, i appreciate those who do it for the right reasons. am i still angered and saddened by the women who find themselves "stuck" in a life that they didn't plan for themselves once they have kids? sure. but i also appreciate the fact that they take care of those children rather than letting them just fall by the wayside in a sometimes hard-to-swallow kind of world. i am even more amazed at the women who have kept their individuality and have also taken on the task of teaching a little one to be their own human because they realize the world needs more free thinkers that will continue to change the way we exist as a society. ** this is my friend karen. she is an amazing human being. ***Pregnant woman - Simavi - STOP Maternal mortality
