Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens

The Lafayette Parish Master Gardener Association maintains an educational demonstration garden at the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center across from Blackham Coliseum.  The 
purpose of the Demonstration Garden is to create an environment that informs the community and illustrates environmentally sound methods of gardening in an atmosphere of collaboration and enrichment. 

Individual beds are theme based and represent the following types of plants: Bog, Bulb, Butterfly, Cajun Prairie, Camellia, Children's, Daylily, Enabling, Formal, Herb, Hummingbird, Junior Master Gardener, Louisiana Super Plants, Mediterranean, Native, Organic Vegetable, Ornamental Grass, Perennial, Rose, Tropical/Ginger, Wildlife. The Children's Garden has won the International Master Gardener search for excellence award for youth.  For more information about the organization, go to www.lpmga.org or the Facebook page.


Admission to all five gardens is $15 in advance or $20 at the homes. Tickets can be purchased from any Avec Souci member, Albertsons on Johnston Street, All Seasons Nursery and Landscape on Johnston St, Champagne's Market in the Oil Center, The Garden Center on Pinhook, and Greenscapes Nursery on Settlers Trace. All proceeds from the tour will benefit local charities. 

Avec Souci has returned over $155,000 in the past 29 years to community charities such as the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, Lourdes Foundation (St. Bernadette's Clinic), Camp Bon Couer, Family Promise, Bridge Ministry, Miles Perret Cancer Center, Lafayette Special Olympics, ULL Foundation Scholarships, Acadiana Outreach, Faith House, and Naomi House.
