Bacque Garden

Allen Bacqué and Winnie Darphin-Bacqué
104 Melrose Drive, Lafayette, LA  70506

Winnie and Allen's bungalow in the center of Lafayette features a front yard designed fifteen years ago with the help of a professional landscape architect, and a backyard a contrast to the front, that features a Woodland's Edge, including a "Cajun cabin", a vegetable garden-in-the-round, native, hybrid, and tropical plants.

The Woodland's Edge began in 1992 using a farm tiller in 1/4th of the yard, amending the soil with sand and leaves and covered with pine straw. The intention of the Woodland's Edge was to provide sanctuary for family, friends, and wildlife. Focus was given to providing plants to attract butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. And, there are numerous paths, symbolic of our journeys in life.

After the freeze of 2016, many of the existing plants had to be cut back at Winnie and Allen's home and by neighbors alike, creating an opportunity to consider new plant material and decide on new looks for the space. Meandering the property, front and back, is an adventure finding treasures everywhere. Join us in the adventure.

Admission to all five gardens is $15 in advance or $20 at the homes. Tickets can be purchased from any Avec Souci member, Albertsons on Johnston Street, All Seasons Nursery and Landscape on Johnston St, Champagne's Market in the Oil Center, The Garden Center on Pinhook, and Greenscapes Nursery on Settlers Trace. All proceeds from the tour will benefit local charities.
