MAORI

Of the three - Maori, Maohi, and Maoli - those calling themselves Maori are the most widespread throughout Polynesia.

Maori Cook Islanders, for example, live in the world's only self-governing Maori nation, while Aotearoa Maori share a founding treaty with foreigners.

Linkages between the three groups remains poor, even after more than a century of suggestions for Polynesian unity.
