1635 Fisherman's Dune Buggy
1635 Fisherman's Dune Buggy
PLEASE READ THIS CAPTION ABOUT ITS PLACE IN THE OUTER BANKS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This little bug saw a long dependable life with Ed Bell, my brother in law. When Ed retired it from civilian life, he took it to Davis Island to serve them when fishing Davis Island. In this picture, let me clarify: This is not a "fun" or a recreational vehicle used to run up and down the beach, It is a serious part of the fisherman's equipment. Look at the fishing rods sticking up in the air. Metal holders have been welded to the vehicle making it easy to take the rods you intend to use that day. It is a very practical way to get your day 's fishing off to a good start. Somebody said that "is a funny way to fish".:) They are not fishing. The fishermen stand in the waist high waders out in the waves, drop fishing for Puppies. It is only a very practical buggy. In the front, under the bonnet there are all kinds of fishing equipment, filament lines, hooks, lead weights, etc. The spare tire is not fastened. That is the way they carried the spare. The buggy hauled everything needed for fishing and , in particularly, getting them up and down the island to find out where the Puppies were running. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today's idea of a "dune buggy" has no resemblance.....and is simply referred to as an off-road vehicle, or an ATV. -wt-
Tube tastic in Vang Vieng
Tube tastic in Vang Vieng
One of the best towns for entertaining the kids at is Vang Vieng, because this is where some of Laos’ best tubing is offered. This mellow town surrounded by limestone cliffs has the equally mellow Nam Song River running right through it. Floating in an inflatable tire from one point to another is the best way to stay cool during the hot months. Photo taken of my son BieJee and daughter Samantha tubing down the Nam Song river to Vang Vieng. They both have their swimming diplom's A,B & C. Sitting in a blown up inner tractor tyre tube and floating down the slow flowing Nam Song River shaded by the surrounding hills. Stunning! It felt like something out of a movie - Listening the the rhythm of the forest. Aside from a few passing kayaks, we had the river to ourselves. There were even a few Laos people fishing and tending to their daily life along the river. There was a consensus that they must think us tube-crazy tourists are retarded!
