On Wednesday 10 August, Dub Me Always is proud to present another roots reggae sound system special, when the mighty Jah Observer joins regular host, DJ David Katz.

Austin Palmer's stack of exclusive dub plates (from Lee Perry, King Tubby, Mikey Dread and many others) and stylistic specialism on the decks made Jah Observer one of the premier London sound systems during the 70s and 80s, and his regular presence at the Notting Hill Carnival was always greatly anticipated. Currently based in Jamaica, we are extremely fortunate to have Austin grace us with his presence. Which original 70s dub plates will Austin pull out of the bag? There’s only one way to find out! This pre-Carnival special is a guaranteed roadblock, come early to avoid disappointment!

Another night of super dub vibes at Dub Me Always, Upstairs at the Ritzy last night when Joe Ariwa Fraser rocked the house with special guest Elijah from Switzerland. Joe treated us to a live dub mix of oldschool Ariwa roots, deep Ariwa dub, and futuristic Ariwa dubstep, all blasted through a custom mixing desk with all kinds of special effects. Reggae contest winner Elijah is a multifaceted person too, contributing vocal in English and Swiss German, as well as acoustic guitar and great flute lines. Those who stayed late enough were treated to a guest mix from big daddy Neil Ariwa Fraser, as well as live vocals from the great Earl Dread aka Earl 16, along with resident toaster Simon Fajemisin, aka Brother Culture, and the one Ras Chamer too. Joe Ariwa Fraser's ease on the board and creative approach had the hallmarks of pedigree, which means that dub's future is bright in his hands! Great to see other luminaries in the house such as Jean-Claude Lionbeat, Carl Jahug Gayle, Leo Vidigal, Michael Fuller and Kingsley of Rav Hi-Fi, Soft Wax Steve, Carole Morrison, Paula Bailey, Laura Guimarães Corrêa, Steve of Reggae Roast, Julia Dawson, Ron Vester and all the other Solid Gold dancers that filled the floor for the last hour or so. Thanks to Laura LaBlonde Mills for sorting out the sound gremlins and to all Upstairs at the Ritzy and Ritzy Cinema staff for looking after everyone's needs as usual. Pure niceness in a dubwise style! Photos by Ron Vester
