8358 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, as seen from the garage entrance on DeLongpre Ave. What is now the Sunset Tower Hotel (formerly the Argyle and the St James's Club before that) was once a quiet apartment house, built in 1931 by Leland Bryant in Zigzag Moderne style. It had quite a list of residents through the years (a young John Wayne, so they say, was one). The Continental Hyatt House across Sunset is in the background. William Conrad's title character in "Cannon," a private-detective series (1971-76), made his home in this building, and the Sunset Tower was shown in 1944's noir-shrouded, Raymond Chandler-based "Farewell, My Lovely" (Dick Powell, as a particularly wry Philip Marlowe, fended off some bad guys here).
