Austin SEI July Professional Meeting

Please join us Tuesday, July 18th for our lunchtime professional meeting where we'll hear about the exciting 3.1-mile long Tappan Zee Bridge project in New York from Sreenath Kotamala, PE and Tyler Brendlinger, PE of HDR Engineering.  This will be a great opportunity to get out of the office for an hour, network with industry professionals, and learn about the landmark Tappan Zee Bridge project.  Food and drinks will be provided.  Additional details and the registration form can be found below.  We hope to see y'all there!

Presentation Summary:
With only about 5 years to build the 3.1 mile long new NY (Tappan Zee) bridge, precast elements were widely used to accelerate bridge construction, improve safety, and provide a durable final product meeting 100-year service life requirements.  For the superstructure, girder units were partially assembled in two or three girder sets, requiring minimal connections on the job site.  Additionally, full-depth precast concrete deck panels were used, providing an efficient and safe work place.  For the substructure design, composite pier caps, consisting of precast prestressed concrete pier cap shells and cast-in-place infill, were utilized to minimize over-water formwork and provide a safe work space for tying of reinforcement for concrete infill.  Stop by the professional meeting for the rest of the story!

Chapter Objective
Our objective is to provide a network for communication among Central Texas' diverse structural engineering community, and to provide relevant technical information.  We are currently hosting bi-monthly technical presentations.  Our local chapter is dynamic and growing, and we always welcome new members.  We are continuously looking for ways to increase our value to the Structural Engineering community in Austin, and are open to suggestions on services that we can provide.  Curious about our group, but not sure if you want to join?  Our technical presentations are open to all, so feel free to come, each lunch, network, and enjoy a technical presentation focused on structural engineering.
A list of our previous technical presentations can be found under the following link:
We are always looking for excellent technical presentations of interest to local structural engineers.  If you have a presentation you would like to make, or a topic you would like to see covered, please feel free to contact us.
