Welcome to Free English Classes for Adults!

The Austin Independent School District's Adult ESL Program offers free classes to adults who demonstrate a need for English language skills. The program is housed in the School, Family, and Community Education Department. Funding for the program comes from the Austin Community College, the lead agency in the Austin Area Adult Education Consortium. Providers of adult ESL classes in the Capital Area Workforce Development Area.

To best fit your schedule, our classes are available in north AND south Austin in the mornings AND in the evenings. Classes run 6 hours per week during the school year and do NOT meet on Austin ISD student holidays.

Who Can Attend?

  • Adults ages 19 and up.
  • 17 and 18 year old adults who have a parent or guardian enroll them and can provide a copy of their high school diploma.
  • Students may NOT be in the United States on an F1 or B1 Visa.

How Do I Enroll?

  • Show up to the first day of class, on time!
  • Complete your enrollment papers and pre-tests.
  • Attend the first 2 days of class.

What Do I Need to Bring to Class?

  • The first day of class please bring a government-issued ID with your photo. This may be from any country or state and may be expired.
  • Pen and paper
