Spotlight Area Cemeteries


Austin County has some of the most interesting and historically significant cemeteries in the State of Texas! Come and take a time-traveling tour through picturesque Austin County...
 
 
The following links provide maps or directions to some of our Historically Designated Cemeteries that are easily accessible and open to the general public during daylight hours. Many of these cemeteries have headstones and gravemarkers dating back to the 1800's!  
 

 
Hartsville Cemetery, Wallis - From Sealy, go south on Hwy 36 for 7 miles and cemetery will be on the right about 100 yards from the Hwy, on the hill.
 
Guardian Angel Cemetery, Wallis  - In Wallis, take Hwy 36 South to FM 1952. Turn Right. Cemetery is on right hand side.
 
Wallis Cemetery, Wallis - From Sealy take Hwy 36 South to Wallis and turn left at second light on
FM 1093. Go East about 1 mile and turn left across the railroad tracks.  Go about .3 mile to cemetery entrance.
 
Hillside Cemetery, Wallis - In Wallis, take FM1093 2 miles to FM1458 and turn left. Cemetery is .6 miles on right side. 
 
St. Mary's Cemetery, Frydek - From Sealy, go East on I-10 to San Felipe and Frydek exit.  Take FM 1458 south .7 miles toward Frydek.  The cemetery faces the road on the right. (Note: Map shows the St. Mary's Church, which is about a 1/2 mile past the cemetery.)  
 
San Felipe Cemetery, San Felipe - From Sealy take I-10 East to San Felipe Exit and take FM 1458 to the left (which goes through the town of San Felipe) about 1.8 miles. Turn left on Campo Santo Street and cemetery will be on the left.
 
Holy Cross Cemetery, Sealy - From Sealy go South on Hwy 36.  Travel 1.8 miles from I-10 overpass and turn left on Stockhold Road. Immediately across the SantaFe Railroad, the cemetery will face the road on the left. (Note: Map shows location of Sealy only.) 
 
Sealy Cemetery, Sealy - The address for this cemetery is 768 4th Street; Sealy, Texas.
 
Cat Spring Lutheran Church, Cat Spring - At FM 1094/FM 949 crossroads, take FM 949 1.2 miles to Cat Spring. Immediately after you cross the MKT railroad, turn right on Newburg  Road, and follow it about 1.7 miles.  The cemetery is on your right. (Note: Map shows location of Cat Spring only.)
 
Cat Spring Cemetery (Kollatschny), Cat Spring  - From Sealy, take FM 1094 West for 11 miles to Cat Spring. At the Crossroads take FM 949 to the right.   Go .2 miles and turn left on Sandy Road and travel .8 miles.  After you cross the creek, turn left on paved road and travel .4 miles.  Cemetery is on your right.
 
 
Industry Brethren Church Cemetery - From Industry, go West on Hwy 159 and cemetery is on right, behind the Industry Brethren Church. (Note: Map shows location of Industry only.)
 
Star Hill Cemetery, Industry - From New Ulm, go North on Hwy  109 for 2.5 miles.  Then right on New Bremen  road.  Follow road for 3.2 miles.  Turn right  and go .7 miles.  There is a Star Hill Cemetery sign.  Cemetery is on the left side of New Bremen Road. 
 
 
Witte - Schmid Cemetery, Schoenau - From Industry, head West on SH159. Turn right on FM 1457. Turn right on Schoenau Rd., then left on Witte Rd. Cemetery is on the right. 
 

Oak Knoll Cemetery, Bellville

Cumings Family Vault, Bellville - On the Southeast corner of Tesch St. and Hacienda St., Bellville.
 
Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Bellville - (Marker A on the Map.)
 
 
 
 
Kessee Cemetery, Kenney - Going North  from Bellville on Hwy 36, take the Kenney Exit and follow that road to the town of Kenney.  At the post office, Turn right to cross the railroad tracks.  Immediately turn left on Hall road and follow it until you see the cemetery on the left. (Note: Map shows location of Kenney only.)
 
Buckhorn Cemetery, Buckhorn - Starting from Bellville, take FM1456 North 8 miles to Buckhorn. Turn right on Ham Kendrick road. (Sign points direction of Buckhorn Church.)  About .1 mile to church. Cemetery is behind church. (Note: Map shows location of Buckhorn only.)

Sealy Catholic Cemetery (Immaculate Conception Church) - From Sealy, go West on Main Street to 800 Block and Sealy Catholic Church is on your right. The cemetery is on your left.  
 
Jefferson (Jeff) Cemetery, Bellville - Pass the City's 'Clark Park' on N. Granville and turn left on Juniper Lane. Cemetery is at the end of the street. 
 
Pilgrims Rest Cemetery FM529 E, Bellville - This cemetery is located on FM 529 East, 3.7 miles outside of Bellville. (Marker B on the Map.)
 

 
Section 711.041 of the Health and Safety Code states that any person who wishes to visit a cemetery that has no public ingress or egress shall have the rights for visitation during reasonable hours and for purposes associated with cemetery visits. The owner of the lands surrounding the cemetery may designate the routes for reasonable access.
 
Many of the older cemeteries in Austin County are located on private property. 
Please respect not only the cemetery, but also the property owner's rights.
Always obtain permission to enter private property.
