Not by any means all Austin poets are listed, but the conceit was there by the poster maker of the time in the late 1970s.

Craig Underwood's building facade for Voltaire's Basement, 407 Lavaca Street, a bookstore of the Paperbacks Plus family that housed the likes of Michelle Shocked, Ricardo Sanchez, Hedwig Gorski, D'Jalma Garnier, Chuck Taylor, Zero, Pat Littledog, Joy Cole and many others. The haunted basement became a popular punk venue for great punk bands when poets did not live downstairs below the bookstore.  The name for the location, Voltaire's Basement, was created by Hedwig Gorski. The punk generation and alternative youth invigorated the 30-something writers who ran the bookstore and gave readings/events upstairs. It seems that the ghosts loved the music and the poets.
