Book of KAYE

Walter Boothroyd KAYE was born about 1800 in Lockwood, West Riding, Yorkshire, England and he was still living there in 1823 working as a Cloth Drawer. On the census in 1841 his age is listed as 40 and his occupation was the same. In the 1851 census he was a widower employed as a Woollen Cloth Drawer. He lived at Bank End, South Crosland, Yorkshire for at least 10 years. My occupation was listed as a Fine Drawer on my daughter Ann's marriage certificate in July 1860. My most likely death is around June Qtr 1857.


Walter was married to Hannah ELLAM on the 11th November 1821 at St Peters Church, Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Hannah was born on the 6th September 1803 in Highfield, Yorkshire, England. She was christened on the 15th November 1803 in the Independent Chapel, Highfield, Pole Moor, Yorkshire. Her parents were Abraham ELLAM and Nancy LEONARD (LENOX). On the census in 1841 her age is 35 and she was working as a Cloth Drawer. Sadly Walter's wife died in December 1842 and was buried on the 1st January 1843 in South Crosland Parish Church Cemetery, at 39.


    Walter and Hannah’s Children were:


    1.1. Abraham KAYE was born about 1823 in Lockwood. He was christened on the 23rd March 1823 in Almondsbury, Yorkshire. He was 15 on the 1841 census. He appeared on the census in 1851 at Bank End working as a Woollen Cloth Drawer. In 1861 Abraham was living in Lockwood with his wife and son, working as a Cloth Drawer. He is not listed on the 1881 census. His wife Sophia was occupied as a Birlar in 1851 living with Abraham aged 34. Sophia was born about 1817 in Huddersfield. Sophia appeared on the census in 1881 at 43 Clara Street, Huddersfield, living as an Annuitant. They had one known child William Henry KAYE born about 1846 at Netherton and in 1861 he was working as a Cloth Drawer.


    1.2. Walter KAYE was born about 1829 in South Crosland and was christened on the 1st November 1829 in Almondbury. He appeared on the census in 1841 aged 12.In 1851 Walter was living at Bank End aged 21 and working as a Woollen Cloth Drawer. His wife Jane was born about 1830 in South Crosland. The family was living in 1881 at 7 Upper Bath, South Crosland and Walter was working as a Wool Cloth Drawer. He was buried on the 8 June 1886 in Holy Trinity Church Cemetery, South Crosland.


        Walter and Jane's Children were:


        1.2.1. Albert KAYE was born about 1860 in South Crosland. In 1881, he was living with his parents at 7 Upper Bath, South     Crosland and was employed as a Wool Cloth Drawer.


        1.2.2. Joe KAYE was born about 1863 in South Crosland. He was living with his parents in 1881 at 7 Upper Bath, South Crosland and was employed as a Twister (in Woollen).



    1.3. John KAYE was christened on the 10 June 1832 in Almondbury. He appeared on the census in 1841, aged 10. In 1851 John was living at Bank End, South Crosland aged 20 and working as a Tailor.


    1.4. Ann KAYE was born about 23 Oct 1832 in South Crosland, Yorkshire. She was christened on the 18th May 1834 in Almondbury. She appeared on the census in 1841, aged 8. In 1851 she was living at Bank End South Crosland, aged 17 working as a Cotton Worker. She resided on the 1st July 1860 at Netherton and married John Dyson WOOD on the 1 July 1860 in the Parish Church, Almondbury and in 1861 she was living in White Lee, Batley, Yorkshire with her husband and she was aged 27. She immigrated on the 17th September 1862 to Brisbane, QLD, Australia per the ship "Whirlwind" with her husband and 3 children. In total she mothered 9 children. She died on the 21st November 1898 in Macalister St, Ipswich and was buried on the 22nd November 1898 in Ipswich Cemetery.


    1.5. Emma KAYE was born about 1836 in South Crosland. In 1851 she was living with her parents at Bank End, South Crosland aged 15 and working as a Cotton Worker.


    1.6. Joseph Edwin KAYE was born about 1839 in South Crosland and he was christened on the 22nd September 1839 in Almondbury. He appeared on the census in 1841 in Yorkshire and then in 1851 he was living at Bank End, South Crosland with his parents and he was known as Edwin and he was 12.


    1.7. Martha Hannah KAYE She was born in the 3rd Quarter 1841 in South Crosland. She appeared on the census in 1841 in Yorkshire aged 3 months. She was christened on the 26th September 1841 in Almondbury. In 1851 Martha was living with her parents at Bank End, South Crosland aged 10 and going to school. She married Miles HEAP in the June 1861 Qtr in Huddersfield. Miles HEAP was born in 1840 in Almondbury. The family was living at Newhall Hotel, Nelson Street, Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire where Miles was the Licensed Victualler.


        Miles and Martha's Children were:


        1.7.1. Ada Alice HEAP was born in 1862 in Almondbury. She was a Pupil Teacher (School) in 1881.


        1.7.2. Charles John HEAP was born about 1863 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a Clerk in an Accountants Office in 1881.


        1.7.3. Julia HEAP was born in 1867 in Almondbury. She was a Waiter at Home (Inn) in 1881 at Newhall Hotel, Nelson Street, Brightside Bierlow.


        1.7.4. Fanny HEAP was born in 1869 in Sheffield, England.


        1.7.5. Clara HEAP was born about 1870 in Sheffield. She was a Scholar in 1881.


         1.7.6. Emily HEAP was born about 1872 in Sheffield. She was a Scholar in 1881.


        1.7.7. George Walter HEAP was born about 1877 in Sheffield. He was a Scholar in 1881.


        1.7.8. Frank Kaye HEAP was born in 1880 in Sheffield.
