Stratosphere and Magnetic Field
AURORA Stratospheric and Magnetic Field Polar Explorer is a student experiment from Scuola di Ingegneria Aerospaziale, Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy. At the first its concept was to study polar light phenomena using a Langmuir probe and a magnetometer. Nevertheless by studying this kind of phenomena it results that a Langmuir probe can’t be employed .
Magnetic field intensity and temperature of stratosphere are sensed and recorded, and sensible variations of them are expected when such phenomena occur. The system will be validated using known models from literature, such as the US Standard Model 1976 for temperature, and the IGRF model for the magnetic field.
Since the flight is conducted with day light, the system is not intended to record a video for polar lights hunting purposes, but since in our university we are conducting studies about high resolution imaging, we also decided to mount a telescope in order to take pictures of the earth.
