Francisco Miranda - Haines City, Florida, presents “Cattleyas of Brazil”
Francisco is a widely known Cattleya expert, grower, and speaker. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Francisco and his wife Christina ran Boa Vista Orchids in Brazil from 1986 until they moved to the U.S.A. With an undergraduate degree in Botany, he went on to complete a Master’s Degree with his thesis “Section Cattleyodes of the genus Laelia”, indicating his expertise in Orchidaceae. Miranda Orchids, located in central Florida, started in 1999 and is a nursery specializing in growing mainly selected Cattleya alliance species. The American Orchid Society has recognized his expert knowledge of Brazilian orchid genera, primarily in the Cattleya Alliance, by giving him the title of “Qualified Taxonomic Authority” for these plants.

There are approximately 20,000 species and 900 genera of Orchids in the world.
Various species can be found growing on all continents except Antarctica but most are found in the tropics.
Our meetings are held at 3pm the first Sunday on even months - (February, April, June, August, October and December) - at the beautiful Club House at Brandon Wilde, in Evans, Georgia.
