Our House is a residential care facility in SE Portland for people living with HIV/AIDS. Our House has recently had a shift in focus and philosophy from comfort in the short-term toward healthy living in the long-term. Our House is unique in the fact that their kitchen is staffed solely with volunteers. As part of my rotation, I had the opportunity to educate the volunteer cooks on healthier recipe choices and cooking practices. I had the opportunity to teach a heart healthy class and prepare a stir fry for the residents. Along with the class, I was able to meet one on one with all of the residents to perform Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) and discussed patient-centered goals with each of the residents.
