Hi folks,

So we're coming up to the end of this academic year and as such, we only have a couple of weeks left as the current committee!

We've decided to have a relaxing evening in The Bobbin on Friday 3rd May (Week 11) for our final event to just take a breather from university!

If you'd like to join us, we'll be in a reserved area in The Bobbin from around 8pm (look out for the Celtic Society reserved sign!).

Hope to see you there!

New Committee - 2013-14

posted 20 Apr 2013, 02:03 by Celtic Society

Hi all!

The music session was really fantastic last night with so many different musicians showing up! The music was great :D

We also have 'the results' of the AGM held yesterday afternoon. We are pleased to announce that there will be a committee next year and that the society will continue on. The committee is as follows:

Seònaid Cochrane - former Secretary, now President of the society
James Cleves - former and current Treasurer
Jenny Tyrrell - former Celtic Officer, now Secretary.

We wish them the best of luck with the new academic year and a big thanks to everyone from the former committee for their hard work over the past year. We also thank everyone who came along to our events over the year as without you, they wouldn't have been the successes that they were!

There will most likely be an EGM in September/October for anyone interested in joining the committee at a later point.

Cheers, guys :)

This Week with Celtic Society!

Hi all!

Apologies for the delay in posting this update! I thought I'd already done it!

This Friday, 19th April marks the date of our Annual General Meeting (AGM). It's at this meeting that the new committee for the next academic year is decided on! This is your opportunity to become a member of the Celtic Society committee for 2013-14. Check out the AGM link under "The Committee" for a list of available positions on the committee. We don't expect all of them to be filled but it allows you to see what you might be interested in doing! We'll be holding the meeting between 4-6pm in Meeting Room 2 in the Butchart Centre on campus. For other details, check out the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/124246291095667/

On the same evening, Friday 19th, we'll be hosting another Music Session! They've been quite popular this term and are always enjoyable so I hope you come along and enjoy the music too! If you have an instrument, feel free to bring it along! We'll be upstairs in The Blue Lamp from 8pm. In addition to the usual musicians jamming, there's also the opportunity for you to have a 'taster session' with some of the instruments. Some of the musicians have kindly agreed to allow people to give their instruments a go! More details will be available on the night as to which ones you'll be able to use :) If you would like to try something out, it'll cost £3 although the event is otherwise free! Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events

Evening :-)

Following our Music Session tomorrow evening in Ma Cameron's, we will return to our fortnightly sessions. As such, we have two events remaining on this side of the holidays:

On Friday 1st March we will be hosting our next Celtic Themed evening, this time focusing on Wales! As usual, the cost of the event is £2 for members and £3 for non-members and will be held in the Blue Lamp, starting around 8pm. This is your opportunity to learn about the Welsh culture, try some Welsh food, listen to some Welsh music and you might even be lucky to get a comedian too!

On Friday 15th March we are planning to have another pub crawl, similar to our Hallowe'en one. This event falls two days before St. Patrick's Day so we'll be jumping from pub to pub in honour of the Irish! Further details about meeting points and pub lists will be available nearer the time.

We're excited for the Music Session tomorrow, hope you are too!

See you guys soon!

Upcoming Events This Semester!

posted 5 Nov 2012, 03:10 by Celtic Society

Morning all!

As of now, we will have fortnightly meetings so we just wanted to let you all know about the events we have coming up for the rest of the semester:

Fri 9th Nov - Our next event will be a Music session. Our Music Officer, Natalie is looking for anyone with an interest in music who plays an instrument and/or can sing to participate for that evening so if it sounds like something you might be interested in, come along with your instruments! https://www.facebook.com/events/222380421225326/

Fri 23rd Nov - This will be the beginning of our "Celtic Themed Evenings" that will be held throughout the academic year. The first of which will be a "Scottish Themed Night". There will be a speaker there to tell us about Scotland, Scottish Gaelic and anything else related and will be available for questions after. In addition to this, we will have Scottish music provided for us by our musicians and potentially a comedian, some Scottish food and the chance to learn a little Scottish Gaelic too!

Week 11 (beginning Mon 3rd Dec) - We are looking into the possibility of having a mid-week Christmas Meal which is open to all members. At the moment we are looking for feedback as to whether this would be of interest to anyone so please let us know if you would be keen for this. We will update as soon as possible with the price range and any other details. Also, if you have any dietary requirements, it would be great if you could let us know that too.

On another note, other Celtic and related societies throughout the Scottish universities will be meeting up for a Pan Celtic Pub Crawl in Edinburgh on Monday 12th November. For most Aberdeen students, this falls on Reading Week at the university so if any of you are interested in going and meeting some members of these other societies, please do! If you are struggling with accommodation, just post on the Facebook event as they are all very friendly and are sure to be able to help you out. Check out the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/293315570768148/

I hope we'll see some of you at these events! We will update you all with venues, times, costs etc as soon as we can, through the Facebook page, by email and here so keep your eyes peeled!
