Erase and Rewind is a series of interviews with curators, lab founder artists, architects, engineers, designers. The aim of Erase and Rewind is to create a collection of texts, videos and audio files contains stories of visionary people. To hear what they think of the process of making a lab, the way they find collaborators, topics, funding, etc. I am also interested how they define the certain periods, paradigms of their labs and collaborative environment and collect information on their methods of doing labs and organizing creative processes, production, communication, etc.

The ultimate aim of the Labster project is to create an online, interactive map, in order to offer personal narratives related to the worldwide Art and Technology DIY culture. In the first phase of the project, narrative texts are collected without a standard data input process to catch site of a wide range of terms, notions, definitions of lab’s practices, ecosystems and lab-life. Presently, I am working with Catherine Lenoble to find the best possible solution for data collection strategy and the interaction-design of the map. We work like ethnographers: holding workshops and help people to write their stories – to get “connected” you need shared realities. We hope that these personal narratives could build a valuable knowledge database. The next step is to establish how the information contained in this map can be studied and best utilized.

Fiction Lab is about collecting theories, facts and narratives on media labs. Our aim is to gather and analyze a broad range of knowledge related to the wide variety of these labs. Working in labs we experience various strategies, structures, different ways of creating projects and collaborations. Extensive compilations of texts, interviews, blogs and publications exist on the operation and the production of media labs. We thought it would be helpful to build a database of these texts and also to find new ways of collecting information. Labster is our first project aiming to collect personal narratives of labs, mapping stories related by people on work, collaborations, lab visits. By organizing storytelling and writing workshops we hope to receive a collection of narratives, and at the same time offer a personalized approach to the ‘media lab phenomena’.
